Hey, we're in the news, for the wrong reasons....again
The email migration problem has gone unresolved for weeks now and knowing upper management is completely aware, one would think they would have had all hands on deck to resolve this over the long 4th July weekend, but noooo things are still just as bad.
Maybe Rob Thomas can write a brilliant essay that spins this as an example of failing fast. Well done, team.
No accountability at IBM. They're too concerned with making sure everything they do reflects diversity and inclusion. I'm fine with that, but they obsess over it. If they obsessed about earnings the way they do about other things, IBM would be a juggernaut.
OH MY MY…IBM takes it in the eye!!!
"IBM is like the Spruce Goose of the industry. "
Or is it the B-52? An old, solid tool that gets the job done. (Thinking zSeries here.)
Maybe servers got ransomwared.
That's an interesting angle. Wouldn't put it past them, but anyone who believes several days email outage results in poor Q earning is a d1psh1t
It's a planned cover to explain poor 2Q earnings, which they already read the tea leaves on.
OK ladies and gents, Tuesday, July 6 is the time to shine. Everyone should copy/paste this into the join AK channel for the allhands:
How are we to be taken seriously in the Cloud space when we can’t even get email setup right?
Canon USA ditched Notes. Now, they use Teams, Salesforce and Outlook, which all seamlessly sync together and make the communication tools environment a fully functional ecosystem that fits the modern business norms.
IBM is like the Spruce Goose of the industry. IBM execs are patting themselves on the back and telling customers, "See, it's the largest wooden plane in the world and IT FLIES!"
Nevermind that it could only get 15' high.
"If we can't even handle our own cloud migration program then why would any customer trust us?"
This hits the nail on the head Good God IBM Exec management team Have you honestly let all of the skilled people go??? AK do away with bonuses until the executive management team performs for at least a year. You required Redhat exec’s to stick via options over 2 years Why not apply performance and consequences to the bonus pool.
“how can we be taken seriously in the cloud space when we can’t even get email setup right?”
Maybe the $3Billion set aside for restructuring had nothing to do with layoffs. Maybe they set aside that money for restructuring email and they haven't finished paying HCL, thus the downtime until IBM finishes paying.
More than likely this in the agile environment was created as 2 user stories because if it were one story it would be assigned too many story points.
The first user story:
As an IBM user I need to be relieved of the plague that is Notes.
The second user story:
Ad an IBM user I need an email system to communicate inside and outside the Smarter Planet that this is.
The first user story was completed in the previous sprint. The second has run into appScan issues and is delayed.
This is the result of things like Agile replacing actual engineering
IBM's new motto:
Putting the "agile" in "fragile" for over 5 years.
Another IBM fuckup!!! Get rid of AK and all the other executive bozos!!!
For the love of G0D, on the next AK call, EVERYONE ask in the AK channel “how can we be taken seriously in the cloud space when we can’t even get email setup right?”
This is the result of things like Agile replacing actual engineering and ya know, goodies like documentation and logic manuals.
Anywho, this is a likely outcome in any major migration... there's what you know, what you thought you knew... and what you didn't know, that is to say what "really is".
For the most part should be expected... that's why the idea of a pilot run and testing is embedded in real engineering.
You don't swap the engines on an entire fleet of jets before you've tested a few.
Somebody is sure to ask about this on the Q2 earnings call. Looking forward to the answer.
So these young CHUDS who claim to be so smart cant fix this?
This article nailed it. It all goes back to Kavanaugh - Mr. Bean Counter. The guy talks like a mobster and is obsessed with cash flow and dividend. His ego is high up is a-s ho-e and is responsible for the sever cost cutting to maintain all the exec bonuses in good and bad times.
Notes is one of the gates of he-l.
The top, experienced, competent architects that could have designed this move properly and avoid these issues were all RA’d long ago - as were all the top-g-n SME‘s who could have fixed this problem in 30 minutes. I’d say this is just the tip of the iceberg.
So is this Kyndryl “coming out party”
That kinda tell you how evil an email system can be on the stress and productivity of employees… Slack is even worse, a total waste of time.
Any hackers out there? Please take down Slack.
My IBM laptop has been turned off for over a week… I can’t do any work without email… enjoying the free time, hope it lasts, there is really no rush for IBM email system to come back up.
I bet they spent more time actually crafting that carefully-worded response than they put into planning this migration.
This is awesome. The need to dictate a response 'cus email is down!
"Minutes after this article was published, an IBM spokesperson dictated the company’s statement over the phone, presumably because email is a bit spotty: “Some IBM employees are experiencing email service delays. We are working to restore full service as quickly as possible, and we are leveraging a variety of alternative communications tools to ensure minimal disruption to our clients and to our business while we work to restore full email capabilities.” "
