Sales people need to leave

AK has made it clear he doesn’t like sales people. If you’re not already looking, you need to start looking. IBM is accelerating its outsourcing of sales to BPs and using technical people to lead the sales process internally. Good luck.

Not in this context, the context of marketing.

Enterprise to me means large scale computing at large customers. But being that IBM is B2B and not really in the consumer market that I think of as "Non"... I'm not sure what "Non" means in this discussion.

"Enterprise" is more of a marketing term than anything else.

Heck, was it back in the 80's that almost every small biz had a name like "Something-or-other ENTERPISEs"... LOL!

Was a cliche that meant you were a small biz trying to look large.

I agree there has always been a mentality in sales to close the deal at the end of the quarter/year - the classic IBM hockey stick has conditioned customers to hold out to the end for a deal. And it's been a problem for a long time, caused by lousy pricing processes and a lack of ownership at the rep level. If deals had not been left to the last minute, then the email outage would have less of an impact. Nonetheless, there are other means to get the order paperwork from your customer, so I'm not sure there will be much of an impact.

Most IBM salespeople (in systems at least) are "box pushers" acting mostly toward quarter ends and seldom in the best interest of our clients. They provide very little value to the clients, so will not be missed. The skill level is very low amongst our sales force and rapidly declining. Sad but true - all over the world it appears.

I believe you are interpreting the data incorrectly. It’s not that AK doesn’t like sales, it’s that Redhat’s strategy doesn’t incorporate a lot of sales people. IBM only needs direct “enterprise” sales folks. Everything else (non-enterprise) goes thru partners. It’s far more efficient that way, and lowers your cost by quite a lot. Now that we are coming up on the 2 year anniversary of the purchase of Redhat, you should see the Redhat strategy hit “turbo” mode, and the old IBM legacy strategy get phased out quite quickly.
