Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I'm here for it

It looks like even brown nosers are no longer safe. A guy who managed to escape every single layoff round so far was fired last week for poor performance. No severance, no nothing. This would not be strange or noteworthy had he not been doing the same lousy job since I've been here and nobody gave a damn because he has mastered the a-s-kissing technique to perfection. I'm not sure if this is a single incident or a sign of something bigger to come, but I'm definitely here for it.

I'm calling BS. You don't survive a ROM, and get immediately put on a PIP, much less fired. If you're screwing up it's usually known by mid-year, which means that chances are the people who decided who got selected during the Transformation would have also known and would have added your name to the layoff list.

There are some old sayings/idioms that will forever hold true; What goes around, comes around. Chickens come home to roost. You’ve made your bed so lie in it. Whatever the circumstances you create are yours to bear. Patience is never infinite, sooner or later it runs out.
I’ve known of several people over my many years at Chevron who were fired or forced to resign. Some got a chance to choose and others didn’t. Just know that coasting on the job cannot go on forever.

More details about the firing please!!! Though firing is rare, I knew a guy who was fired way back, due to performance. The guy got several warnings but apparently whatever he did was not enough. A young guy btw. It was not entirely his fault but rather a horrible team that he was with. He was just a very quiet guy while others talked your head off. He was used as a scape goat, I think, for a failed project. He found another job quickly right after leaving Chevron.

Being forced to “retire “ is more common than firing an employee. Long term sub par performance usually resulted in washing out employee during downsizing
Termination was saved for egregious behavior (se-ual harassment, embezzlement)

Wow, firings are pretty rare. I’m my years, you have to do some pretty stupid sh!t to get fired or really p!ss off someone important. Garden variety stupidity and performance usually just get you move to a new group.
