Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

People need to start talking about their pay openly

You have no idea how many people here are underpaid.

Some have told me they are maxed out, pay wise. A manager once told me there are no published pay ranges. What gives?

I'm severely underpaid. For those that think managers get paid decently, think again. I have employees that make what I make and up to 20k/yr more than me. HR and the department does NOTHING about it.

I've been there for 10 years. Band 6. Mostly exceeds on year end reviews and my pay is in the same range as a new hire. Not sure why I don't transfer to an easier band 8 job. Meanwhile, the bank makes headlines for raising its minimum wage. They're such heros! Little do people know that everyone there is making it. Minimum pay = minimum effort I suppose

Actually, if you look in HR you’ll see that it’s perfectly fine to discuss compensation with others. You just can’t discuss any information you ‘stumbled upon’ with others but yes, you can talk money with your coworkers.

My whole team knows what each other makes and we’re all making lousy money.

The whole place needs to be gutted and replaced with new management. Seems HR is as much to blame , they back the corrupt management. I’ve been working here 17 years put in a complaint to HR and nothing happened.

The main reason why they don't want you to talk about pay is that it is not the same for everyone even if you do comparable work . I have talk to people who have work here before and they told me the bank was sued when employees found out how unfair the rate of pay was to others with similar experience and skill. This bank is a total joke from top to bottom.

People are afraid to discuss pay. When I was on boarded so many years ago we were told specifically we are not allowed to discuss pay which could result in termination.. Unfortunately the threats were empty. According to The National Labor Relations Act protects employees’ rights to discuss conditions of employment, such as safety and pay even if you’re a non-union employer. The NLRB calls these discussions “protected concerted activity” and defines them as when employees “take action for their mutual aid or protection regarding terms and conditions of employment.” I would advise to do this off site, the Bank can be vindictive and fire you for something else if you do it on property.
I miss my union job!

And for as long as nobody is talking about it, it's going to stay that way.
