Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike and Nike Tech

What I expect from an employer:

  1. Fair wages, medical benefits, matching 401, and a good working environment that's safe and has growth opportunities.
  1. Nike doesn't pay market, does have great benefits and matching, but the environment is toxic and no growth opportunities.
  1. Where employees are valued and appreciated, whether in words, writing or compensation.
  1. LMAO.  Doesn't exist in Nike Tech unless you're an a-s kisser, poser, or a white boy.
  1. Basic work life balance where some overtime or extra responsibilities are expected, but not demanded.  Where you can say if it's too much or if you have a family emergency or personal one, that you will feel supported.
  1. LMAO.  Doesn't exist.  See #2 above.
  1. To be more inclusive versus exclusive.  To work in an environment where everyone feels included and part of the conversation regardless of gender, race or religion.
  1. LMAO.  Doesn't exist.  See # 2 and #3.

  1. AND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT:  To feel safe and know the company will actually do the right thing for their employees.  That they're not just a marketing company making billions.
  1. NIKE DOESN'T GIVE A FLYING f**K ABOUT EMPLOYEES.  It's all about the stock value and shareholders of which we seem to forget about who our actual consumer demographic is and continues to be.
  1. LASTLY AND THE MOST IMPORTANT.  CULTURE!!!  Nike HAD a culture that was so special, invigorating, welcoming, and exciting.  We had the swag (now a water bottle), we had the enthusiasm and the vibrancy!  We cared about our past, history and were proud!  We felt lucky to be a part of such a great company that actually valued employees and gave opportunities to everyone from the lowest level to move up.  We were excited and exciting!   We would go to lunch wearing out black badges and strangers would be envious.  WE WERE SPECIAL!  We felt special.  Now we don't.
  1. To continue with layoffs since June 2020 through today and more are planned, is just plainly gross.  Yes, they started in June 2020 in Tech.  To continue to push out our date of restructure time and time again is demoralizing.  The dread continues and seeps into our daily lives like cancer.  I HAVE KIDS!!!  I feel sick.  Due to Nike's lack of investment, I'm not sure my skills are equivalent to what the market expects.  I feel d-mber than when I started and less marketable.

Thanks Nike.  I don't know what else to say.  Who's to blame?  RL?  I doubt it.  JD, doubt it.  I truly think all of this is coming from the diamond coal bu-t creator and miser, AC and HR.  Don't call us a Tech company unless you're willing to invest in us, period.
Telling us that no layoffs will happen in Tech, but you might not be in the same org is pretty awful.  How would you feel if you were randomly moved?  Appreciated?  Not likely.  You need to fire McKinsey.  Your approach is an awful mistake.  You're going to lose more employees.

PS:  I already gave notice and my wife and kids are moving in with my parents.

I suggest getting counseling.

Blaming a company for all the things you're feeling isn't healthy. Sure, Nike has problems, but those problems seem to be affecting you very deeply, and they aren't as bad as you make them out to be.

Reorgs are painful, and yes, they should have ripped the bandaid off early and often, but so what? The truth is that they are under no obligation to give employees a warm fuzzy. They are only obligated to give their investors a return on their investment. It would be nice if The System weren't so callous, but it's not Nike's fault that American society values profits over people.

You might try focusing on what will make you happy rather than how unhappy you feel Nike is making you. No American is guaranteed a job anymore; that's the way it is, so take control of your career and do something you love. It doesn't matter who you work for as long as you're enjoying the work you're doing.

What I don't get is the constant a-s kissing and worship of Nike. They treat ETWs like peon class Serfs.

I find FTEs in technology to be lazy as he-l... Then push back with all the bureaucracy that is Nike. Everyone argues about work. JUST CUT THE CR-P and work for heavens sake.

I think you called it exactly how it is and was.

Nike is having some massive issues.

If JD read this and cared to do anything about it, my recommendation is to fire everyone who is a Director and above. That stink isn’t going to go anytime soon if you keep trying to appease it. Just rip it off like a bandaid and let’s get moving again.

@OP, sorry you are having such anxiety. Of course, it is not right and you have made a decision to leave. Your wife and kids move with your parents but where are you staying?
