Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

No one is proud to work here anymore?

It seems to me that no one is proud to be working here anymore and that everyone is quite depressed and demoralized. At least that's how it is with me. I used to be very proud that I was given the opportunity to work here, and now unfortunately I am looking for the first opportunity to get out of here.

I remember many moons ago (when oil was hovering at 100 dollars) sitting in a engineering meeting and a fellow engineer brought up merit pay at that time. To our surprise; the engineering manager response was "that they do not give pay increases around here and that is the way it is". He smirked when he said that too...we were all looking at each other like wtf we are doing here. Last time I checked this manager is now upper echelon...go figure. We were lucky to be given a yearly bonus pay of I believe 500 back then but that was it. I can't even begin to imagine how things are nowadays.

Don’t worry about being proud just milk that cow. This company don’t care about the employee so just carry on.

VP of renewables position for the guy who used to brag about his $10k business class seats and 3hr stopovers from Brazil-Dubai-Houston without even leaving the airport. Probably the least green guy in NOV!

If you have any shred of ambition at NOV, but not in the group who get new roles every 12-18 months, you’re wasting your time. It’s always the same names moving to new weird and wonderful positions yet the results are the same (definition of insanity?). My advice is to get a job with progression and more than likely a better salary. Believe me they are out there.

Upper Management makes it easy for everyone to feel demoralized. With no raises, performance reviews or bonuses, plus benefits like 401(k) getting cut while they are kicked back getting their bonuses and promoting each other left and right. You have these clowns on Linked In like the” Voice” and the CMO who’s even a bigger clown being paid to literally offer no form of value to the company. More VPs being promoted weekly. Take the new VP of Renewables. Are you kidding me?

Workers work themselves to the bone, and then get cut during the many cutbacks. It’s a stinking shame.

I understand your feelings completely try not to blame yourself for feeling this way it is simply caused by the fact you have seen the reality of the environment you work within and you see the dysfunctional management.
A good analogy of the way you perceive the managers is akin to someone falling from a skyscraper without a parachute saying to themselves "so far so good".

I have lots of soap on a rope only issue is the rope is missing so you need to bend over if you drop it.
