Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Employee monitoring and blocked websites

I'd love an honest answer to this. Are all the computers here monitored or is that just my group? We have software called "buddy" which is being rolled out to all machines.

Also all our network traffic goes through a proxy which blocks a lot of sites. The only reason I gave this a thought is because instagram is blocked, but one third of the FUEL page is dedicated to instagram. Recently IT forced the FUEL page to be our browser homepage. This means one third of the browser homepage on everyone's computer is dead links.

@2qav+1bOEZhfm No, most have stopped bothering with web filtering since 2005 or so, but I don't expect the tech-incompetent Fiserv HR flacks to know this.

Here's the tea: as long as the work gets done, most corps don't care if you visit FB or whatever. They do care if you visit pr0n sites or something similarly outrageous on their time and network, but otherwise most F500 corps consider it to be a waste of time and money to babysit their employees to that degree.

It's only the incompetent, overweening and micromanagement-happy outfits like Fiserv that bother doing garbage like that.

I don;t expect Fiserv's management to grow up and realize this, though - at least not until their BoD is standing in Bankruptcy Court.

So Fiserv is active on FB, Linkedin, Twitter etc and they block them? Wow they are a bright bunch.

This must be the original poster’s first corporate job. Companies everywhere have deployed web application firewalls to block Facebook and other social media sites for at least ten years.

They have always done this. Funny thing is, you used to be able to bypass it all by plugging your own equipment into the network (they likely changed this by now, one would hope, but Fiserv is nothing if not lazy, so YMMV.) Doing this was an instant firing offense, but Fiserv was never really good about security. Speaking of which, their wifi security (at least in a few of their offices) was laughable at best, and (again) easy to bypass.

They were always top-of-industry on keeping their own equipment locked-down and you monitored while you were on it, but five minutes and a laptop onsite would tell you that they really, really, REALLY sucked at general network security.

The website monitoring I get. But monitoring if we are working hard enough...

Even before the merger, I will guarantee that groups within Fiserv monitored web traffic with carbon black (precursor to Crowdstrike). With enough bad data, COC violations and po-n (yes) on a system, people were terminated with cause.

Internet is monitored and blocked if you are on the VPN or not.

Yes you are monitored the computers in two ways. One with crowdstrike and second with sapience. The internet traffics is monitored through the outbound bluecoat proxy (I think) and you are forced to use it once you VPN into work or you are in the office.

They utilize a proxy for web connectivity and that is where logging/blocking is occurring. As for the system logging it has been in process for some time and not all groups have it installed however in the end every workstation should expect it to have it at some point.

They've been doing this for years even before the merger. They run their own web server so they have complete control over allow and deny and also logging. And then there is their firewall(s) but I doubt there is a need to use it for user web surfing.

FISV leadership is incompetent and prefers avoiding direct interaction with associates. Instead, they love passing the buck to Workday and monitoring software. I bet managers get a regular email listing the websites their people are visiting.
