Talent reviews are back!

Well what do you know! The good old talent reviews are back, this time with new tools and processes. As astonishing as it sounds, weekly check-ins are mandatory and become a metric that actually comes into play to measure performance. Big push from ELT members to ensure everyone checks in regularly. What you write doesn't really matter, all that counts is how many people check in. People leaders must stack-rank employees by mid July. Feels like we just traveled 10 years in the past.

Another time waster. Just like managers who create pointless meetings so their own calendar looks full

Then add to that the V2MOM that is required for everyone in CX (and now Ops?). Everyone has to align their goals to the person above them and update it as goals are completed.

I guess I missed the memo. What talent reviews are back ? Since when the Teamspace check-ins are mandatory ? Genuine questions.

I used to check-in into the Teamspace for a few years under three different managers. Then I figured they couldn't care less about it (and probably don't check-in/ use the tool anyway). I doubt my current manager and director above him ever touch the thing. So I stopped. I haven't been using it for about a year now, and nobody reminded me to do so.

Talent reviews never went away. WTF did you think? Did you drink the "people deal" koolaide? That was complete nonsense. How do you separate performance ratings from pay raises etc? Of course, lots of people were overlooked because the company decided to focus on specific job grades instead of what managers recommended, but that's another reason why the people deal was/is BS.

It’s the Managers who get in trouble if their employees don’t check into Teamspace, that’s why they are so an-l about it.

I thought Teamspace was mandatory. I know in our group if you don't check in every week you are on a naughty list. Even on PTO, just put something and click "Submit". Not sure whose baby this is - but I'm sure when they leave Cisco for better pastures Teamspace will disappear overnight.

How do managers even get any work done if all they're doing is having weekly check-ins with their direct reports? I though managers were needed to approve non-significant purchases, access requests, etc.

This sounds more like an exercise to generate the next set of LR lists and then it goes back to normal monthly BS.

Nobody has pushed me to use Teamspace. Our VP has openly threatened all the people managers if they don’t use it, but never really forced ICs to do it.
I don’t really know much of what it is, but it’s obviously a profiling tool that HR feels they get value from—which is a great reason to never do it.

Fran figures all of the top performers have already left so there's no more concern over giving outstanding feedback to an employee and then laying him/her off.

"The New Phonebooks are Here!

"Things are going to start happening for me now"

Talentspace has been around for a few years. If your manager hasn't used it or discussed it with you then shame on them. If you don't reach out and get feedback regularly then shame on you. If you can't get the simple things done like get teamspace and time in then you may have a problem coming because the chosen buffoon MM is the one pushing it all downhill. No one below her has any say in anything. If they do they only have that say one time. Just ask BP and UV.

In our dept we were asked for more then a year to check in. So it is next next next until you cannot do a next anymore. Remember put all smiley faces as leaders like smiley faces and dislike critical not so happy faces
