Thread regarding IBM layoffs

a Q

I am in GBS (SAP) and I joined about a year ago. I have about 10 years of experience. I like the project I am on and we'll probably be on this client through 2023... I am being offered about 20% more total comp by a mid tier consulting company - they promise that 80% of work will be 'no travel'... What should I do? Jump the ship or wait a bit more...

GBS account partner here. Accept the other offer but as others mentioned you should negotiate for more. GBS market relevance keeps declining and leadership is beyond awful. Based on current rates of attrition, anyone who stays will be holding the bag for some major programs. Don’t do that to yourself. And yes I’m looking to leave as are all of my peers.

Depends on how much you want the extra money and how much you like to travel.

Will your current project’s tasks expand your skill set?
Two years is a blip in your career but 20% more pay is not insignificant. Think long term and figure out if staying for 2 years will help get to your long term goals.

If you stay, ask IBM for more $ AND always keep looking.
It’s likely you are worth more than 20% since the mid tier company may leave wiggle room for negotiation.

Leave, but you can negotiate higher than 20%. Based on retentions I’ve processed, I’m seeing exit offers with anywhere from 40-100% increase in pay to Accenture, Big 4, and boutiques. The market is hot.

I wouldn’t jump ship just yet. Try to explore your career progression path in GBS through this long-term client engagement with your FLM. It’s entirely possible for IBM to match the increase in a short period of time instead of you starting over now with a mid-tier firm.

Lol, more conspiracy mongering paranoia every time someone says something remotely non-negative about IBM. Gotta loved it

If I were in your shoes, I'd be out so fast that the carpet will be smoking in my wake.

Please contact my office immediately. I will personally see to it that you get more comp and anything else you want. We cannot afford to lose great employees like you.

Jump the ship, what are you waiting for?

Sounds like a question from HR trolls again, seriously doubtful that a newly hired employee came up with a question like that, especially in this type of forum.

Negotiate with ibm and then take the offer to them again. Bump 50% and then leave
