Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Where's the Holmes Road updates.

Been a while. Has DC and his merry crew finished up any new amazing technology that's been worked on in the last 30 years? Have the old R&M guys ever found their lost tech or finished up migrating all of their amazing data systems for the customers? Does Tubo finally have capacity actually within 1000 miles of a customer field to accomplish a job if they needed more than say 100 feet of coating? How long are the ALT calls these days? "Y'all get out there and sell something"*.

(*Note, we may or may not actually have something).

Tuboscope is the most narcissistic group within NOV. The Wellbore President hires all of his goon friends to run all of the SMT group. It’s a bunch of yes men who can’t make any leadership decisions on their own. They just set up a bunch of middle management people to make all of the decisions then throw them under the bus if it’s not the right decision to make. Not one of the SMT leaders has the proper education to be in the role they’re in.

Exactly, and Tubo is a great little microcosm of that.

They bought R&M with their whole 'Visuwell' package. On site rod inspection, deviation tool, guide measurement, RGAP stuff, etc. Yet when they came over they had 'lost' all of the tech with a bunch of d-mb excuses and only had their buggy RGAPs they still did by hand. Yet SMT fell in love and gave them the keys anyway. A decade later and millions of dollars spent they are still doing RGAPs by hand, no rod inspection on site, no gyro, and changing the name and goalposts every year or two of everything they are trying to make the same failed promises work, (Visuwell, Welltrack, Wellmap+, D365, etc),.

These are the guys still employed lol.

Can anyone above at NOV please explain some business 101 lessons to Tubo SMT, they seem to have failed to understand the concept of "sunk cost".

Nov was never any good at R&D and is still not, what they were good at were timely purchase of companies that were good at R&D. After a few years under NOV ownership, they became as bad as the rest of the lot. One example; I guess NOV has spent 150-200 mill on developing the NOVOS platform, and it is still not up to client expectations on efficiency and full of bugs.
