Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Campus Population

Does anybody know how many people actually work on campus now versus pre-pandemic? I have heard for the most part that everyone is back but it seems a little sparse. Maybe it will be different next week. Eating options are not that good yet and the line at Chick-fil-A is ridiculous.

Exxon Mobil Corp. is preparing to reduce headcount at its U.S. offices by between 5% and 10% annually for the next three to five years by using its performance-evaluation system to weed out low performers, according to people familiar with the matter.

Assuming no hiring, 5 to 10% a year over the next three to five years will be 25% to 50% headcount reductions at the Spring campus.

At some point, we do not need the Spring Campus. Maybe we can convert it to townhouses or condos or perhaps sell it as the University of Houston - North Campus in 2025. The views from all of the glass enclosures is excellent.

The Houston campus opened in 2014 with 10,000+ according to press releases.

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Downstream, Chemicals and XTO Energy companies and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

Regardless of the count it’s still too many…

The tracked employee population was around 7.5k. I’m not sure if that also includes contractors, but I dont think it does. The number will increase over the new few years as HHL gets reduced and the lease not renewed…2023 i think. Not sure the campus will get 12.5 seats full….it was probably overbuilt.

Prepandemic the campus could hold 12500 people. They "densified" the campus around 2018/19 to hold more people.

I'm curious too how many people are currently assigned a desk at campus, it can't be near 12500, given all the PIPs, layoffs, retirements and attrition in the past year.

The count of employees showing up to campus each week is published in the biweekly covid report goto/houstoncovid19, at the end of the report. I've only seen this data published since the pandemic started so not sure how many people were coming prepandemic.

They need to open more food options on campus. So many food stations still closed.

Chik-Fil-A line is full because nobody goes to church anymore.
It's a good way to get good with the Man up there.

XOM is lay off people and then give them EHAP for free. So first inflict the wound and then collect points by providing a way to heal those wounds they that created in the first place.

The word is it will grow soon. Hughes, however, will shrink...

Before the PIP and layoff, about 1 out of 5 people at the campus actually worked.

After the PIP and layoff, about 1 out of 10 people at the campus actually work.

You’re too excitable to be working for EM in such exciting times… the next few PIPs will take care of it. Next time you’ll be gushing on LinkedIn about the great experience EM provided you.

I think what you’re seeing is many people taking advantage of a flexible work schedule. Many people are now working from home. The company is working hard to accommodate the employees. HW3 is revolutionizing the XOM work environment…for the positive. This will improve profitability and worker satisfaction. I’m excited to be working for this company during such an exciting time…moving XOM into the future.

XOM will never adapt to a hybrid, wfh type flexibility like other companies ever. A proof is current workplace flex program that's talked about but not actioned or promoted in good faith. Why? Because they know slaves and people with golden handcuffs or perceived golden handcuffs will continue on the slavery and they dont have to change a thing. Plus, DW and his gang will have to answer to shareholders for building this huge extravagant campus that would be an empty one. So ofcourse mgmt. will require bums on seats to serve their own purpose and pockets. Why shouldn't they? People for this company are not assets but just a commodity.

Look at LI posts by these mgmt. crooks saying how good the company has been nice to them and their families in accumulating wealth, buying vacation homes, planes, boats, RVs, and on and on. And these are the people (mgmt.) that company refuses to cut, but cuts hardworking worker bees in a blink of an eye. Pity!

The trick was firing 25%... Makes it sparse.

No working from home. Management needs to justify their job and micro managing things they have no clue on

As for headcount, more contractors than employees

100% back in Annandale. No need to wear a mask if you're fully vaccinated. Covid is over.
