Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

The elephant in the room at CIS

There are two types of emails filling CIS inboxes lately:

• “It is with mixed emotions that…[long-time, valued CIS worker] has decided to leave…”

&

• “Welcome …[so-and-so, filling a brand new CIS position in India / ICC]…”

Those in that first group are leaving because they know that it is just a matter of time before they will be replaced by an entire workforce in India/ICC and, somewhat tragicomically, the US workers will likely will have to train them in order to get to the point where ICC is up and running.

Nike will ‘test this out’ at first, and the Indian workforce may eventually fail.
But it won’t be long before many of the long-time, valued employees at CIS in WHQ will leave.
Management has no idea how to control this, but they’re not appeasing fears that this ISN’T the case, and as such CIS is bleeding workers out the door.

I've seen it, too. Vendors start getting greedy and Nike gets less return on the money going out. Time to bring everything back under Nike's roof until they hire vendors because it's impossible to internal folks to get anything done b/c politics.

Nike does this every few years....then realizes they cant get the 24x7 availability and high quality they demand without folks being full blown employees. Then they re-hire and move big parts of it back in-house. Its been happening for the last two decades. Rinse and Repeat. I went through it twice during my tenure only to see us bring it all back later.

I’m not even in CiS and my job was brought overseas as well.
Is this what Nike considers Diversity and inclusion
Ridding Americans for foreign workers for 1/2 the cost, sounds really ethical

I know departments that have brought in technical writers to improve the documentation on systems....sure sounds like prep work to get rid of some folks.

OP is probably correct. And what incentive do CIS leaders have to be transparent on this? The eventual CIS cuts wouldn't affect them, so they're incentivized to keep the worker bees in the dark long enough until the cut-rate Rat-force is trained to do their jobs.

there's a list floating around of everyone who has left CIS over the past several years. the last time i saw it, there were around 120-130 names on it. i know about 20 people who have left this year already. how many ICC hires have we had this year?

Overheard from a senior director in CIS: "World-class means outsourced."

Well, CIS wanted to be world-class...

@1juk

That's essentially the current FTE/ETW model where you have one FTE on a team of ETW's. They're just taking it one step further now.

Every cost cutting scheme you saw enterprise companies doing 10-15 years ago is what Nike is starting to do now. The writing is on the wall and you have no excuse for being caught off guard.

I'm in CIS also. Spot on. They're creating a huge wave of departures. I myself am currently looking at other options. Nike has NO upward mobility and you get silo'd into a role.

The " follow the sun" model with hiring workers from Bangalore, India is hurting U.S. Workers..Nike defends this by calling them " global partners" as a form of virture signaling. It wouldn't surprise me in 5 years if most of CIS were all foreign workers and only senior positions were Americans.

And Rat sits there and lies to everyone saying...."this is growth" we are not moving everyone's jobs.....yeah it is growth this year...but next year....where do you think the cuts come from...
