Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Where did you go?

Those that left voluntarily or otherwise, where do you work now?

Just now started looking.....its been nice to take the time off. Cisco changed...just like we all do...it was fun, but it was time to move on....I do thank them for the many years I spent there (2000 - 2020) but I would not go back....remember there is going to be nonsense where ever you work...so make the most of it and the right fit for you. Good luck!

“ Culture is pretty much feast or famine at AWS. It’s every man/woman/him/her/binary for themselves at AWS. A sink or swim culture.”

This could not be further from reality. Since joining AWS I’ve found a great culture and spirit of innovation that’s been long missing from Cisco. It is true though that you can’t be lazy, but working with lazy deflated washed out colleagues is also something I don’t miss about Cisco.

“AWS. love it. Tons of growth, interesting projects, great culture. No going back to cisco or the old school ages out techs.”

This original post rings true except for culture. Culture is pretty much feast or famine at AWS. It’s every man/woman/him/her/binary for themselves at AWS. A sink or swim culture.

I went to a direct competitor, and promptly got a 6-figure raise doing a simpler job.

+1 for a major cloud provider.
And even if you leave voluntary, there is no exit interview per se. They just let you fill the form "please share what was your experience working at Cisco" in the end. No discussion with a live person. Gives you an idea, how important those exit interviews are.

Completely different industry where I can give back to the community.

Happily at Amazon, making 20% more than at my Cisco G11 role.

Is this because I didn’t fill out my exit survey?

LOL. I damn near choked on my drink when I read that! You owe me a new keyboard as mine is now sticky. :-(

Honest question: Is there any penalties that Cisco can use to enforce the exit interview/survey? I don't know anyone who was LR'd having to do an exit interview or complete a survey. They gave us a list of things we had to do to complete our exit, which contained a lot of things I might have overlooked without it.

I don't think I'd complete a survey if it was offered to me.

Different industry and with a company that appreciates experience regardless of age. I'm in my late 50's and valued with my new company. Better pay, expectations are based on 40 hrs/week...do your work and once you hit 40 hrs you're done. No questions. Very steady workload and high expectations for professional output but with less stress from constant fire drills from remote directors and above.
