Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

EMIT Future

What's the longer term EMIT future in the US, it being not a core function and just a service org.? E&PS, HR, Procurement, and other non core orgs are trimmed down to the bones in US. Would EMIT also follow that fate with all the outsourcing (locally to contractors and BTCs)? Is this something that the top wigs who left recently knows and hence they must have chosen to leave? The top doesnt share anything until your head is slaughtered by then it is too late. Anyone hearing anything at all?

The assessments this year are a bloodbath. The differences between categories are so thin. Doing a good job at your assigned role means nothing. Even more than ever it depends upon how well your Assessor presents your accomplishments. I know first hand of cases where the Assessor chose to ignore the prepared summary provided by the direct Supervisor. Those people were suggested to be Excellent and ended up NSI. If the EMIT LT doesn’t like you - you are f***ed.

EMIT never really was a core function of the business...

@2bps+1bU8eMPX that particular manager is weak and will never do anything except follow the company line.

Well, interestingly EMIT is hiring again in US and all the hiring managers that are hiring are so excited that they are trying to sell XOM as the best company. One hiring manager even stated on linked in that even though the job posting is for Spring, Tx a good candidate will be considered job working remotely. What a lie! The company policies would require us to have bums on seat and would only avail remote work to new hires. I had to laugh at how the managers continue to poision the culture and work environment with all these lies! And those lies are protected with more lies and the circle continues until their agenda is served.

Biggest problem with outsourcing is that everything EMIT does will become transactional, i.e. ticketing system or project funding. They did themselves no favors by sacrificing the relationship aspect, and made themselves ripe for outsourcing/offshoring. The only problem is that the people who made those decisions aren’t being offshored/outsourced themselves, so they aren’t “eating their own dog food”.

Long term? Outsource everything. Leave some manager types to manage the relationship with the third parties and beat the IT service providers over the head to keep costs down.

@1cfo+1bU8eMPX And half of the managers! Doing business with themselves.

I would start by outsourcing the internal audit and business controls group. These overpaid, arrogant non-value add schmucks conduct their affairs as though they run the company. Time to do things differently that add real value to the bottom line.

@1chg Yes, that makes sense. And those product owners will looove the global travel and hate the late night zoom meetings. Unfortunately, these product owners could also be the current system owners or custodians, so that means lesser movement from EMIT to business in the US. Many of EMIT leadership are already offshore. Therefore, the future is bleak for US EMIT.

Ref an earlier reply - only Leadership Team and Product Owners will be in US.
Given the ever-agile meaning of Product Owner in EM - these will eventually be a position in the business, and no longer EMIT.
It will be either a ticket punched or a trip to Siberia for them, but that's Product Owner definition right?

Exxonmobil computer systems suck so bad abdare so slow and unwieldy all of EMIT should get replaced with a visionary third party to clean up the mess the real workers need to use.

There are very limited reasons why someone currently in EMIT should stay. Even top management with a CL27+ should reconsider. Hundreds of external companies are so much further along in their IT journey than XOM. Also, it doesnt take an external CFO to see the little "value" EMIT is bringing. Expect 60% of the rest of EMIT is MSP'd by 2025. Seriously, get out now if youre in the US.

The new outside CFO will be the contact executive for GSC. It’s anyone’s guess what she has planned, but I’m quite certain that she will be less than impressed with EMIT.

EMIT will be sold to Infosys within the year

From what I observe (and thus speculate), the long term vision in EMIT is for remaining US-based emps to be the Product Owners. All support and dev activities must be offshored. PO will liaise between LOB and EMIT team overseas. Make sense, right?
