Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Apparently we don't have the best executives

Here's a slido question for y'all to use: If the board felt it had to go external to fill a key leadership position, despite the company's claim that it has the best people, what does that say about the performance of our most senior executives? Will PIPs be put in place?

LDD is so worthless. Just a showpiece. Won’t even qualify for a low level admin assistant job.

It wasn't just that fewer woman were hired during 1985-1995-ones that were hired were top notch-just not put into the pipeline. During downturns XON always went back to promoting the boys. A few of the really attractive women like LDD were high ranked and moved along but they were by far not the most qualified.

First right thing we’ve done in long time, hopefully tide is turning — LDD has been totally inactive making total of ZERO decisions and let her incompetent VPs run lose with ZERO accountability. Are our UIS/UBD VPs the most incompetent clueless buggers or what ? Not that UOG guys are much better, maybe by hairs margin

DW has been told by Larry Fink to bring new blood. His internal candidates don’t work because they have been tainted by the culture. DW is right now very weak to resist pressure. He is just trying to keep his job but he is obviously weakened.

Assuming the BOD wanted a female in the top 5 executives, the hiring of an outside CFO simply indicates that there are not qualified women internally to fill a CFO position. LD and KM do not have strong financial background. BC is a god CFO candidate, but a better resume with actual CFO experience was available. The real long term issue is why did the COED system fail to develop a female internal candidate. The only thing I can think of is 1985 to 1994 was a period of layoffs and low hiring, so few women were hired and hence fewer are in that age range today. That pool would today be the right age (53 to 60) to fill a cfo position, and hold it for 8 to 10 years. Looks like a solid choice.

We will see how long all the finance lemmings last when they try to get their new boss to drink the EM dividend Kool Aid. I wonder if her mom/grandma also
Made retirement plans around our dividend (LOL). Think there’s going to be a lot of WTF are you people thinking as she hears about how we run the place. hopefully she can really shake this place up in a good way.

It's definitely the right move by the board, but as others have alluded to it does beg the question for a lot of high potentials how high their internal potential really is when they now have to compete with a much larger recruitment pool.

This is funny to me. Lot of finance fûcktards are going to have their pànties in a knot for a while.

Not saying the company is wrong for it. Just that it must suck to be standing in that line and have someone cut right in front. I agree with the idea that we'll see high up resignations in the near future as they go to c level jobs elsewhere.

I normally like criticizing management, but let’s have some perspective here. I actually endorse an outside hire here, especially for a CFO position that doesn’t really require O&G technical knowledge. I’ll give credit to the board where it’s due, going with an outside hire - we needed a shake up. I don’t think going outside directly means we have to sh-t on the company for it

Must suck to be a xom lifer and have someone external waltz in a scoop the job you were in line for. You'd have to then ask yourself what are you doing at xom? Might as well look somehwere else to get that top spot.
