Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Does anybody know the numbers for the 2020 VSP package?

Meaning how many people took it (full-timer's) as well as how many people got laid off via contracts? Someone posted in another post that the target for VSSP is 1000.

Might be a good gauge to predict who might take this years package.

I heard number is 200, in total. Office of General Counsel is not part of the offers.

From the FAQ:
Q4. How many employees will be impacted by the VSSP?
We hope that the voluntary separation program will reduce a total of roughly 1,000 salaried positions in the USA.

You could respect a company that strategically hires and fires people.

Strategic meaning if you made a hiring mistake, then immediately correct it (Joe Blow told tales in his interview and could not perform the job he was hired for, so release him once that is known).
Strategic meaning if no one on a team can perform the teams tasks, hire people who can and fire the existing team.

This is not what Ford is about. Ford leadership has no clue which of their team members are competent and which are not, so they keep people like themselves ( non working political animals) After every cull , they hire many more people than they just culled as inevitably they cull the people who are carrying their entire teams load. Every cull also results in a load of newly minted LL5 and LL6. Ford is so bloated it will only take a slight breeze for the whole thing to topple and roll down the tubes.

Simply put, Ford's culture of te---r they inflict on their workers. They don't even wait anymore, they now go on a hiring and promotion binge WHILE setting up their annual cuts. You think anyone is going to do their best work in a toxic environment like that? Heck no. Head down, mouth shut, and take no risk least you lose your livelihood.

And after every package offering or involuntary cut, Ford goes on a hiring and PROMOTIONAL RAMPAGE. No confidence at all in present leadership. Many of us still left working at Ford just want to enjoy our work and do a good job, but this sickening/toxic environment and annual "cull" makes it difficult. I never wanted any part of the politics and I've paid the price dearly after getting cut in '08.

The ink isn’t even dry from the VIP and now the VSSP. Areas excluded in 2020 now included. Makes one think the company isn’t planning very well. Packages or cuts in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. It’s sad to run a company this way.

I can confirm that LL6's (first line supervisors) are part of the VSSP, not just GSRs.

As far as upping your years of service and pension, that hasn't been done in many years and I don't see it coming back.

Someone said their L4 told them target was 7% of the areas that are being targeted in each area. They also said no management, only GSR, which tend to be specialists/SME's, so might be a larger take rate than one would think since these people likely can get a job somewhere else. Feel free to take all the above with a grain of salt.

For what it is worth, I honestly think this is the way to go and should be the way forward with Ford and white collar workers each year for the next 3 to 5 years. It is obvious that going full on BEV, no matter if anyone really likes it or not, is here and not as many people will be needed. Therefore, let's treat the white collar folks with a bit of respect and make voluntary offers each of every year. If they don't get enough takers at first, then sweeten the deal by offering more lung sum payout or topping off their pension to the next milestone (i. e say someone has 23 years in, top off their pension in cash to 25 years or something similar) . Since it is governments pushing all this stuff, they should prop up the Ford and the other automakers by giving them the money to incentives the older workers to go.....fair is fair, since they are basically forgiving a certain amount of college debt for the younger folks

Rise and repeat for each year until the magic number is reached. This is far better way to go, and a lot less likely to produce hard feelings or bad publicity, and offer a smoother way for older workers to transition to something else. I say all this as being one of the older GSR workers (21 years in at Ford, over 50) who while I am safe this year (i.e. did not get the VSSP email), know it is just a matter of time until my number comes up.
