Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Love seeing all these inactive linkedin profiles suddenly full of life

Nearly all of my XOM connections were faceless and description less. Suddenly I've noticed a flurry of activity, new pictures, colorful (if not overly exaggerated) descriptions of their job duties and accomplishments. All this to say, even people I originally thought to be xom lifers are looking elsewhere.

Ten years ago ExxonMobil frowned on employees that kept their LinkedIn account current with their latest promotion, title, and job description.

Today ExxonMobil frowns on employees that are "NOT LIKING" ExxonMobil press releases or sharing and reposting information that casts ExxonMobil in a positive light.

I am confident that LinkedIn activity is one of the metrics for determining if you are or are not a "good long term fit". I would encourage every employee to spend time every day liking and reposting information released by Public and Government Affairs. You never know how it might improve your ranking during your annual performance evaluation.

I wish I had one share of XOM stock for every new ExxonMobil LinkedIn job description that had the word "sustainability" in their title.

Just saw a promotion to STC of the most slimy and self servient Brit I worked with. The type of Dou che who sprinkles new management buzzwords and peddles empty “innovation”, all to rack up frequent flyer miles. The type of “advisor” who creates more problems than he solves.

Well, he’s now on a branding quest in LI, eliciting and giving praise. Most remarkable, from people I know they certifiably can’t stand him.

Not a pip about the Brazil failures. It paid off for some, I guess.

Linkedin is extremely useful for job searches, communicating with recruiters, or just building your brand.

The only negative aspect of linkedin is the overly dramatic a$$ clown posts you see sometimes. But if you can overlook that, its still a wonderful tool to have.

I am an experienced hire who has been with XOM for 5 years. Up until 2020, I noticed that XOM lifers mocked LinkedIn because mother XOM would take care of them for life. How things have changed in a year. Now that XOM is getting ready to kick them to the curb, they are all overdrive on LinkedIn….. liking every post, recycling BS and making inane comments. It’s hilarious.

LinkedIn haters say it doesn't work :p Building an external brand in the public domain, if managed well, can only do positive things for your career growth and development.
