Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

A lot of GP first lines were on vacation last week

I’m assuming they were told to take the week off to prepare for ranking feedback. They need to be well rested to “own” the outcome. These people have no souls.

First lines are part of the problem. They choose to stay in that job knowing they are pawns of senior management. No excuses anymore.

Well, I wasn't in Global Projects, but in mid-June 2020, my supervisor sent me a meeting invitation for my ranking feedback session (scheduled for July 6) .... and promptly went on vacation for 2 weeks, until the day of the meeting. I suspected what might be coming, because this was roughly 10 weeks earlier than the timing in previous years ... and also because I tried searching my colleagues Outlook calendars to see if anyone else's feedback session had been scheduled (very few had been).

My supervisor was an experienced hire, an expert at claiming credit for the work and ideas of his direct reports, and an expert brown noser to senior management and is still with the company. So, I'm just giving an alternative viewpoint - your supervisor might go on vacation after scheduling your (early) feedback session because (i) he/she is a coward and doesn't want to risk talking to you until the day, or (ii) he/she is a complete a-ho-e who's going to enjoy his/her vacation, secure in the knowledge that you're probably going to have a string of sleepless nights and worry-filled days.

Yes… complaining about First Lines… totally the source of the problem. I hope clueless whiners like OP are PIP’ed.

If a GP first line did not take a vacation, they are most likely NSI candidates. If you think that you will be laid off, you want to avoid vacation so that you can cash in vacation pay when you are terminated later this year.

Monitor those first and second lines that do not take their vacations this summer. This is a strong indicator that they will not be around in December 2021.

Yes - the ppl that are just barely ahead of you in the org, and have the same doubts, concerns, and grievances as you... They have no souls. Sure.

You sound very NI-ish.

Or it's the summer and people are off on vacation? Many are out at the sites as well. Nothing nefarious about being out of the office...
