They're not struggling, they're biding their time until they find the right opportunity they need.
I love how this is said. Yes exactly. However, from the moment I realized that this company is no longer right for me until today, a lot of time has passed. It was a mistake that I didn't react immediately and started looking for a new job after that first red flag.
Day 1. Cubicle with stained decades old mismatched carpets. Same with the chair. Laptop not ready for use. Badge office closed, couldn’t get a badge to get around the building. Unable to get a better chair without a doctors note. Unable to rearrange cubicle without a work order. Red. Tape. Everywhere.
Day 1. I was shown to my work area, which consisted of a broken chair with coffee stains on it, and no computer workstation setup. Should have just walked out then.
the day I looked up CA Vacation policy and I saw an HR memo stating up front 'do not print or circulate with staff'. This memo basically coached managers how to indirectly force their employees to take their banked vacation without actually saying 'mandatory'. It was full of weasel words like "employees best interest" to take the well deserved vacation and how HON 'values their employees'. I assume this was because they legally couldn't force people to take it but also didn't want to pay out at a later date. I recall managers telling staff with lots of seniority they would be put on a list and reprimanded if they refused to take all their bank vacation by year end. I of course printed it and circulated it with everyone I knew since they were stupid enough to post it.
I posted the response about waiting for the right opportunity to salty person in a previous post. I've been looking for over a year and have turned down two job offers that just weren't right. I'm still looking and it's only a matter of time. No hurry as nobody should jump from the frying pan into the fire.
When Maddog took over ISC as the VP, he used to preach about linearity and it became very clear he was the single biggest barrier to linearity from his actions at the end of every month and quarter. Priority for people and safety slowly slipped away under his leadership and he only promoted leaders that would agree with him and happy to take his orders with zero ownership for their teams. Now everyone has the pleasure of listening to the barking maddog as the president. I'm sure he still has all the solutions and not bringing any good results other than to himself financially.......I'm glad I am gone, but please share any good Costco analogies you hear in the townhalls.
Day 1. Since I'd interviewed online, I had no idea how tacky and isolated the facility was that I was going to be working in. I was led to a grimy cubicle and sat down in a wobbly chair with a loose arm. They'd run out of cubicles so this cubicle was borrowed from another department and I was going to have to move when the designated occupant arrived on his H1b visa.
I asked my new boss where the office supplies were kept as I wanted a black ballpoint pen and a small pad of post-it notes. (I'd brought other supplies with me from home.)
He looked at me like I had two heads. That set the tone for things to come.
Two years.
Finally moved on but it took a while to find a better job.
Remember that other big companies are exactly the same.
There is NOTHING special or unique about honeywell, good or bad.
It is just an average industrial slogging away.
