Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Brain Drain

Just had another conversation with one of the best employees in their position telling me they are leaving for greener pastures. I’ve lost count of the number that have left in the last 2-3 months.

I was excited for them. It actually wasn’t a shock as we talk regularly and I know they were frustrated in their role. They tried to apply for other roles here over the years but kept getting past over or told they didn’t hire anyone.

Everyday there is a news story about companies who don’t embrace WFH and force people back in office will lose out on top talent.

Pay is rather stagnant here at TR as we get our measly 2% -3% increase. While we know if we jump ship we can get anywhere from 25% to upwards of 50%.

Remember folks you need to look out for you first. I myself am looking as well as I know several more are. I am looking for a remote position and with luck should have something by the end of year.

Pay is not the main reason for me looking and for a lot that I talk to it’s not their only reason as well. For me my main concern is stagnation. I have been in the same role nearly 8 years. No room for growth and frankly with all the turnover I wouldn’t take a manager role either.

They say the best time to look for a job is when you already have one.

Good luck out there

Some very good observations made here. Will management take heed of them? Of course not. The Talking Heads song, "Road to Nowhere" pops into mind here.

You hit the nail on the head. TR claims employees have a career cycle for people who want to grow but there is no growth. I am not a manger and would not be as they seem to get work dumped on them all the time. There are too many “process people” here and the processes are broke and stagnant. We claim lean production but we are far from it. It’s silly to see the directors and their mindset. I mean we have 5 different CRM systems, stupid. People who are in charge fumble these CRM systems when we activate them and it’s draining to watch.
