During this period of time, there is nothing good about AT&T except when you can't find other employment and need a paycheck at all costs or you have resigned yourself to getting a paycheck and putting in little effort (i.e. milk the cash cow). Benefits are poor, pay is below standard, constant layoffs and threats of layoffs, poor leadership, reverse discrimination bringing on unqualified people, no strategy, falling behind in technology, little career advancement, .... just to name a few

When working at AT&T don't think about how bad you feel today because the payoff comes later when you retire . I can't say I miss AT&T but now I enjoy getting up at 5:30 AM so I turn on the TV ......and I have a better out look on life after leaving that place ...

What I like about working at AT&T is that after you leave the work center ...... all you had to worry about was how to charge off jobs to make production . ..

The good thing about working at T is that my commute to and from the El Segundo location takes me past several very nice cannabis dispensaries.

Good or bad, It is all about perspectives.

1) You have to put up with id--ts, mostly in the executive rank to about AVPs. Director and supervisors are usually cool unless they are heartless self-promotors who wants to climb the ladder. Coworkers are usually knowledgeable or willing to ask when they don't know something, which is essential to stay alive in some roles.

2) Base pay are good, don't expect top dollars or excellent benefits, not for the worker bees. HR's idea about being competitive is not what you think it means. We are in the minor leagues when compared to Google, Facebook, etc.

3) Bonus pay isn't great, just take the team payout. Most wouldn't invest their time and energy on all the BS required to get extra pay. This whole pay for performance concept is all BS, management is way too lazy to do it right, in any meaningful way.

4) Work, is about persevering through the bureaucracy. Projects will take 2x to 10x more time to complete, and your team needs to cough up funding to pay some outrageous fee to some no name vendor because they are sole support now. Just tell your manager to chill, like cooking with a crockpot, there is zero urgency unless it is life or death.

5) Meaningful pay raises and promotions, statistically non-existent. If these are your top priorities, time to find a new employer. Stankey's recent rant on diversity is a distraction. Anthony's declaration that training and growth opportunities are available to everyone really means available to no one. Trust me on this, I'm a minority with many tick marks in checkboxes :).

6) Flexibility is dependent on roles. Personally, this is why I stay. My schedule is flexible to get my work done and support my family (medical situations). You could be very unlucky and have a supervisor who insists to watching you dotting I's and crossing T's.

7) Working for AT&T long term is detrimental to your career outlook. If you are after money, position, or fame. Don't stay too long, there way too many ahead of you inline with entrenched networks, chance for success is extremely slim. Unless... you are the next Melissa Arnoldi, could happen.

At this point in the company, nothing more than a paycheck every 2 weeks.

One has to begin with the understanding and acknowledgment that T is a horrible, toxic, dysfunctional place to work, with a senior executive team that is openly hostile toward and contemptuous of its workforce.

With that established, yes, there are some good aspects of working at T.

  • The pay is actually very good (or at least it was). Higher than most comparable positions elsewhere.
  • Your coworkers are often quite smart and capable, and will be happy to lend a hand.
  • There are a good number of opportunities for motivated people to take advantage of high-quality free training in tech, data analysis, programming, etc.
  • For many positions the actual job is relatively low stress.

There used to be more, such as outstanding benefits, great perks, etc, but Stink has already destroyed those. And that pay advantage is probably not going to last long, either. Nor will the free training.

The thing to keep in mind is not what is good about T, but that what is good about T is basically a four-bullet point list and doesn't come close to compensating for what is bad about T.

Do yourself a favor and get out as soon as possible.

The good news is that it's at will employment. No one has to stay if it doesn't help them in any way.

If you are a masochist then this your place to work! The Stinky can deliver it in droves.

Just watch out - your career will be short.

Other than the pay, I couldn't think of anything else when asked this by somebody who is considering joining.
