My dept just lost 2 good people for better opportunities. More $ and better work life balance. One went to a e-commerce company the other went to work for a local tech company.

Opportunities abound which is a good thing.
No kidding. Leaving and I mean in droves. Some with little to no notice with no concern of leaving on good terms.
Sad to see high expertise tenured people work so hard for so long that the only escape to any normalcy is to leave. If the work life balance is so one sided then what’s the point as all you are doing is living to work.
Seems like “do more with less, work harder, longer and more often” is running people off.
There are other posts that already allude to this. As mentioned, the job market is very hot right now. Lots of attrition moving to greener pastures. More money, better benefits, option to work from home or not. Like the man said “if you don’t like your environment, then change your environment” and people are. HR told one manager “you’re not going to find the talent you are looking for, for the salary you are offering”. It’s sad.
I honestly can't remember that it was even half as bad as it is now at any other point in time.
