If Ford is so concerned with diversity they should consider diversity of thought, ideas and skills. If you have diversity of appearance but everyone has been brainwashed to think and behave the same way you don’t really have diversity.

@5fub if you look around you will find Ford is a segregated company.
What do I mean by this? You will find groups that are 100% Chinese / 100% Indian / 100% white / 100% male etc.
For example some 100% Indian groups will fail any applicant who is not in the Indian group that they identify with (lower castes need not apply type of a deal). They always give some bogus reason like some particular skill was not possessed by the applicant.
Once a group has more than 20% it quickly becomes 100% same.
All the corporate virtue signaling in the world will not resolve this issue.
@4kgm you are part of the problem. And that is a completely false.
For all the disparaging comments from boomers about having to interact with PoCs at work, I literally had never worked with (and hardly saw) any underrepresented minorities during my entire 4 year tenure at Ford.
@4wzg you leaving “voluntarily” is very different from you leaving involuntarily
lol what? I am underrepresented demographically and I definitely got a voluntary severance offer.
Yes Ford is doing the diversity promotions a disservice.
It is just like research has shown repeatedly that diversity admissions into universities, especially ivy leagues does a disservice to the diversity students. The students who go to colleges where they are more apt to be on par with their peers do better long term financially and academically than the diversity students at the ivy leagues.
But it is not politically correct to be evidence based so academics do a disservice to students.
Ford is doing the same thing, putting people in positions they do not have the skills or aptitude for. So the incapable person results to politicking, cheating and lying to keep their job. Heaven forbid that everyone has to work hard to develop skills before being promoted (those days are long gone)
Personally, I think it's pretty ridiculous what Ford is doing with this diversity push. Essentially they are openly tying a social stigma anchor around these diversity promotes. They really won't be respected by their peers and they will forever be looked as obtaining their position by virtue of the color of their skin. Sure they will have a larger paycheck, but they will never have the respect of a position earned. Finally, with Ford's toxic culture, their lives will be pretty miserable as one thing Ford does best is destroy people from the inside. Ford is in the end really hurting them as well as all their other employees and only worsening the morale. The end result will create an undercurrent of divisiveness and we will all end up worse from it. I really hope we stay remote as things are really going to be horrible.
@ 1ray DEI training has been done. It clearly stated BIPOC would be “helped” so OP shouldn’t have even had to ask the question.
It's because of people with the attitude of OP that DEI training needs to be mandatory.
If you are a FCG, you are all safe from layoffs while in the FCG program, regardless if you are a special snowflake or not. You see, FCG program and personnel costs are centrally funded, and don’t hit any one department or area - hence you aren’t part of any areas budget so does not good to let you go during a layoff effort, as you being forced out doesn’t help any department’s numbers.
Once you leave the FCG program - well if you are one of the diversity hires, you can expect rapid promotions and quick rise up the LL ladder if you can manage to not drool while talking on camera. During this years annual black history month promotions, I checked the calendar of certain engineer who was presenting at some of these events - let’s just say I did not see any engineering type program meetings on her calendar at the time, but a lot of other meetings…..get the drift?
The fact that there is a LL4 FCG coordinator speaks volumes! Talk about a company that is way over-bloated in management structure. I think any GSR-8 (or lower) could do that role. And if there actually is a person at Ford who thinks that people with little to no work/automotive experience are the future of Ford - well, as Gomer Pyle used to say - "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise - Golly!"
Also, a previous poster in this thread commented that 100% of P/T management are former FCGs. Well, I don't know if it is 100%, but assuming it IS the vast majority of LL's and knowing how incompetent the current management is, just maybe there is a HUGE problem with having the FCG program in the first place. Obviously, it is not working! It may have been good when it was first created, but it has apparently turned into a program used to stroke egos of people who can't handle responsibility and accountability in the real world. I guess all the geniuses at Ford never heard the saying about the definition of insanity (that you keep doing the same thing over and over again, even if it is wrong - or in this case bad). I know what you naysayers will say - that the FCGs graduated from UofM - They are the cream of the crop. Sure thing boss. The results of Ford speak for themselves.
Too bad they actually discriminate against POI (People of Intelligence)
Ford races to the bottom of the intelligence and skill barrel while saddled with massive debt load, what could possibly go wrong ? Hey Vera, get me a faygo and bucket of popcorn
Highly skilled intelligent people want to work with highly skilled intelligent people, not with a bunch of people just drawing a paycheck for either some non- job related attribute they possess or because of who they are related to or who they have relations with.
Ford leadership has forgotten the fact that PRODUCT is most important. Those who do not contribute to the bottom line are a net drain on Ford- and sadly that is 80% of the Ford white collar employees
F has stated on numerous occasions that POC will be getting preferential treatment - anyone that sat through the equity presentation would have seen that. If you are downvoting these comments, you are in denial because they flat out stated POC would be “given opportunities” and they had a # to meet for promotions for POC. Like someone said below, POC are safe as to not disrupt their quota.
If you are a person of color at Ford, you are Teflon. You can pretty much be a raging incompetent, lie, slack off, steal from the company or whatever. Management will not say anything out of fear of jeopardizing or being seen as not going along with the POC edict. Ford will accept total decimation to a program just to meet diversity targets.
I had several FCG's working for me during their rotations during my career at Ford. I am not aware of any FCG being laid off at Powertrain during the headcount purges (2006 ~ 2010). I can attest that FCG's are helped / assisted in moving to other areas by their Mentors (LL6, LL5 or LL4) when a headcount reduction was coming. Regular GSR's had to go to Jobs on line to look for openings.
All FCG's White, Non-White, etc. are highly screened, the opportunity is not given just for the color of the skin or gender, they have to prove themselves during the selection stage.
I am aware of children of LL's that did not make the cut, so family contacts inside Ford did not help.
Many FCG's leave Ford because they expect to be promoted once they finish their rotations. That's the misinformation fed to them by the FCG coordinator (LL4) and by many of their LL's mentors.
Regarding the question if FCG's (White, POC, LGTB+, Females, etc) are protected, the protection comes from their managers who in many cases allow them to make costly mistakes w/o affecting their careers in Ford.
Unless the FCG's have a bad attitude there is no way they are fired or reprimanded.
In many occasions the FGC coordinator said it at the All hands P/T meeting that FCG's are the future of the company. And she is right, at P/T 100% of the LL's are former FCG's. Of course many of them belong to the UofM or GMI mafias that protect and promote their alumni.
Usually, FCG's that are not promoted within 10 years at Ford more likely they will never be promoted. Those FCG's become disgruntled GSR's.
A FCG with less than 10 years in the company has more chances to be promoted than a former FCG now GSR because the FCG has a Godfather rooting for him. Usually White Male FCG's get the nod before Females or POC.
Ford is still a White Male organization where White Males rule at every level. At P/T there is no LL6 POC and the Female LL6 were outstanding FCG's. Things changed a little after I retired but not too mcuh
"I would urge people here NOT to spread false information, its a question of someone's life and career and you should not have to live with the guilt that someone listened to your false information, and "didnt sweat" and did not leave Ford before his/her cull and had to suffer..."
Thanks for trying to lame blame on others at large for an individual suffering from their own circumstances.
1) Don't believe in one single item read on an anonymous forum. Or any single data point really, always validate information for yourself. And watch for trends so you don't miss the forest for the trees.
2) One should not be complacent in general about employment. Continual self improvement and trying to always be ready to take advantage of opportunities that come along unexpectedly will have you prepared to deal with layoffs as well.
3) Someone who is foolish enough to not see the trend of writing on the wall about Ford and the auto industry at large and sitting idle merely hoping fate will pass them by is being just plain stupid. And stupidity should be painful, like getting burnt on a hot stove it's how we (should) learn to not continue that behavior.
Is grass green?
Well without giving any details, I can confirm a 100% that FCGs are not safe. There are FCGs on the list this time around, and I know this from a person who I know extreeeeemly well. Like really really well. They were laidoff in 2019 and they are on the list this time around too. DO NOT believe anyone who says FCGs are safe.
I would urge people here NOT to spread false information, its a question of someone's life and career and you should not have to live with the guilt that someone listened to your false information, and "didnt sweat" and did not leave Ford before his/her cull and had to suffer because of you! Think about it!
Of course they are. Ford is Woke now and no way any POC will be laid off, since it will hurt their “numbers”
Of course HR will say, “No.” As an FCG, you won’t get laid off. Relax. I’ve never heard of an FCG being fired or laid off.
I asked Ford HR and they said "No"
