How to deal with manager who constantly creates workplace dramas?

I encounter drama at work regularly. No, the manager doesn’t want to stop the workplace drama, he even incites it. Do you have to deal with one like that? I don't understand that anymore. That man just seems to enjoy when there is some drama around him.

Back in my GTE days, the best approach was to work towards getting id--ts promoted to a position somewhere else in the country. Got rid of them without jeopardizing your own position.

I had interactions with an area manager like that in Chicago. Repeated complaints by his team to upper management and the "ethics hotline" (now there's a joke for ya) and absolutely nothing was done. To this day he contributes zero to the company other than riling people up with drama. He'd be better off sticking to his side gig in radio production IMHO

Maybe he’s practicing…. as he prepares for a political run. We live in an era of crazy egomaniac, Ignorant, uneducated populace. We’re reeling from one such drama queen who held the highest office in the land.

Unfortunately, some people with a level of authority seem to get off on creating chaos in the staff because it then puts them in a position of power where they can solve the problems they created indirectly.

It's not just low-level middle management in business. Sometimes it can be the CEO, or as we all saw for four years, a political leader.

These people intentionally create chaos and disorder because they lack the skills or desire to actually put in work to efficiently manage. It's much easier to come in and settle a ridiculous dispute than it is to take consideration and plan out strategy.

If you can, transfer into another group. Otherwise you are stuck. Unfortunately, if you complain about your boss you'll be the one to pay because this is T and the overriding philosophy is that no worker is smarter or more capable than their boss, all the way up the line to Stink.

It's really kind of pathetic.

Just ignore him. I have the most negative manager, he is always complaining about everything. Just hang in there until next re-org or forced retirement.

That’s because most, not all 1st and 2nd level ATT management are imbeciles and the only reason they’re in those positions is through nepotism! I had a 2nd level that didn’t even have a college degree. How does that happen without good ole nepotism! That’s why these people couldn’t manage a group of Boy/Girl Scouts! A sad reality within and it’s been that way for many, many decades!

In my experience when you don’t admire your boss, the best thing is to figure out what makes them tick and play along. Do NOT embarrass them as someone else suggested, unless you’re looking to be blacklisted. Eventually, you will move on or he will move or there will be a reorg and you will have a different boss. Just do your work and wait it out. You could mention it at a skip level meeting. You just need to be careful what you say and who you say it to. In fact, don’t complain about it to coworkers, who, unfortunately will throw you under the bus when you least expect it.

Call in an anonymous tip using someone else's cell phone to Asset Protection saying you saw this person looking at kiddie po-n on his company computer. Nothing will come of it obviously, but it will distract him a few months.

If that's too harsh, then just smear doggie doo under the handles of his car doors and giggle about with your spouse.

Usually when people don't work on improvement of the product or process it's because they don't know the work or the business. With our company's philosophy of the past 20+ years that managers don't need to know how to do anything except 'manage' it is my opinion that your manager is doing the only thing they know how to do, being an ignorant child.

My recommendation would be to find a way to embarrass them by illuminating their ignorance and lack of ability in front of the whole group every time this manager starts their sh1t. Make it very clear to everyone that this manager is hurting your company and your group.

Eventually they will either try to learn some things to be beneficial to our company or they will hide in their cube to avoid embarrassment..

Don't give up, good luck...
