Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Headed in the wrong direction?

It seems to me that this company has lost its compass. Agree? It’s hard to work and be engaged when you see that a lot of things are wrong and you can’t influence it in any way. The opinion of the employees is not heard here, nor is it of interest to anyone. Unfortunately.

The woke-ness is becoming overwhelming, my VBO date cannot get here soon enough. Videos, trainings, hiring practices, emails, every intranet site they are shoving this down everyone's throat.

Who the heck do you think drove the company to do better and win? The people who are being disposed of in the name of D&I that encourages ageism. The purple hair nose piercing folks didn’t get us to where we are today. And they won’t get us too far 20 years from now either.

Back in 2016 I first felt the D&I mandate as a hiring manager. Wanted to go with the best candidate, but got overruled by my manager who said we needed to hire the D&I candidate. Knew it wouldn't work out and it didn't. The best part - the rep clearly needed to be put on warning for repeated issues. But that proved to be impossible. HR was suddenly putting roadblocks on what had been routine. That's when I decided after 10+ years it was time to move on, and I did.

My only problem with Fidelity's recent woke-ness is their making D&I classes mandatory for everyone; mandatory even for people who have lived their life with diversity and inclusion and didn't have to be woke.

Here's the bottom line: they are putting minority candidates into jobs where they are NOT qualified. I don't blame the minority candidates as they are getting great titles and lots of money. This allows team managers to get the D&I police off their backs. The problem is the rest of the team has to pick up the slack for these unqualified candidates. This is not sustainable and will drive people out. Maybe that's what they want?

What's most troubling to me is the recent Diversity and Inclusion report. Fidelity has always had a diverse workforce with thousands of employees from the U.S. Ireland, Canada, India and China. Thus, Fidelity touts itself as a global company. So why would they leave off the 6,700 employees from FMR India and the hundreds of China employees from the D&I stats? Well the reason is the woke mob wanted to make Fidelity seem 'more white' so they could further justify their agenda. They promoted this report among our client base and the media. The reality is this whole report is a fraud!

They are trying to prop up the diversity stats. It’s all over the place, i get emails daily on new hires with pics, and it’s pretty obvious what is going on. I was also told by my a manager that they have been told to focus on minorities and females, even if there is a better candidate. Everyone better pray that we don’t go into a significant market downturn, because it could get ugly.

One side effect of the VBO is that it is going to 'improve' diversity at Fidelity.

My experience with the 'diversity' at Fidelity is that they are uniformly bad at their jobs.

I don't think this is going to turn out well.

winning? more like coasting. it's about to run out of steam and people know it. It's almost like an existential threat. without new products and businesses reaching new customers, the 'winning' is unsustainable.

complaining? you must be new to the internets ... people 'complain' here because no one listens over there. It's - do as I say and not do as I do form of 'leadership'.

So why does Fidelity want to get rid of the people that caused all of the winning? If woke D&I is not part of your answer then you are wrong. Hence the question, is this going in the wrong direction? My opinion is yes they are going in the wrong direction by taking their eyes off of ball.

Come on... don't you feel the woke-ness oozing out of every email from corporate?

Completely disagree as the company is doing better than ever winning in just about every space we compete in. The VBO is a great opportunity for some new people to step up but complaining on web sites isn’t the way to do it.

Agree. The 'opportunities' with the VBO are basically copy-paste type situation. An opportunity to breathe in fresh air is squandered away to finding candidates that maintain the status-quo. So all we'll end up doing is replacing good people with those that check the proverbial boxes. Nothing will change as long as the L1/L2 under Abby is the same old guard. We are merely shuffling deck chairs on the titanic.
