Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford Employees: what are you driving?

Given the high number of recalls, launch issues, and internal campaigns that you are working on, are you putting your family in Ford products or driving something else?

Longtime Ford direct employee here. I drive a 2014 Ford Fusion that I bought used in 2017. Aside from a few recalls, the car has spent very little time in the shop.

My wife drives a Chrysler minivan. The type of vehicle that best meets her transportation needs is a minivan, so she gave up driving Fords when Ford gave up building minivans in 2007.

We currently have 4 vehicles and not one a Ford. No way am I wasting my money. Or want to spend all my time rotating vehicles into a dealership or shop to get fixed.

I drive a M-plate test car. I own a late 80s Toyota Camry but barely drive it.

In our youth we are naive and believe that the stated company culture and values are the practiced company culture and values.
In early middle age we often exhibit willful blindness when presented with evidence of the practiced company culture conflicting with the advertised company culture and values.
At a certain point the evidence can no longer be ignored and we face reality. This generally happens at around 45-50 years old, some people realize it sooner, others never do.
This along with pension obligations is why Ford like to shuttle off the older workers.

One thing is certain, once you go to HR and report a LL6+ or a person protected by an LL6+ you better be looking for your next job as your goose is cooked at Ford.

@1nmr+1balKprK The non-Ford car keying was happening regularly at both ITEK and also at FMCC in the mid 2000s-2015s. I am sure it continued after that as one of the ring leaders worked at Ford until 2020. One of the ring leader’s husband was an LL4 so all complaints filed with HR went into the waste bin, and of course the complainers were retaliated against. That ring leader tried to recruit me to join in the fun and games.
I also remember the videos of cars and license plates being emailed around and people placing notes on cars and cubes trying to bully people into buying a Ford. It was not cool.

Most of the benchmarking efforts based from purchasing competitor vehicles were stopped under Hackett several years ago. Targets are set by image vehicles, not competitor vehicles. Need proof, go to the FACT website (internal Ford) and look at how many vehicles have been purchased for benchmarking over the last 3 years.

I'm not challenging you, but this seems difficult to believe. I'm sure HR would have been all over this considering the extreme push for acceptance of diversity and inclusion.

Did anyone report this? No supervisor or manager in the right mind would condone this behavior. They would be out the door quickly.

This does sound more like something that happened in the 1970's and 80's at the plants where they setup separate parking lots for non Ford vehicles.

"......I suffer for working at Ford..."

You complain about working at Ford, and don't have a clue about what most people who work in smaller and family owned businesses have to put up with to keep their jobs. Those are the majority employers in the US. Aside from layoffs, it is extremely difficult get rid of a lifer salary person. I am not a lifer, been at Ford for 15 years and will retire this year (no pension). Your past 25 years working could have been some much more difficut to get through.
Consider yourself blessed.

Sorry, one of the posters below not driving a Ford and a 20+ year Ford direct salary employee. Past Quality and current PD position. NO WAY would I waste my money on our product knowing what I know. Rather, purchased a competitor's vehicle that we did deep engineering benchmarking as it is superior to ours. Yeah sure, sitting looking at the tech data and you expect people to choose the lesser vehicle? No, I don't throw the money I suffer for working at Ford away. Leave? Yea can't, waiting to hit my 30 so I can finally leave. Unfortunately bought into the lie years ago and now I'm locked in. Won't however be one of those that stick around endlessly after 30.

@trp+1balKprK reminds me of the Ford employees who spent time video taping the Ford parking lots and creating and posting videos with sad music shaming all the employees who did not drive a Ford.
Not once did it occur to these people that they were stealing from Ford by spending work hours creating and posting the videos.
It also did not occur to these people that people had jobs before Ford and would drive their current vehicle until it needed replaced. The bullying ensured they would not buy a Ford when their vehicle needed replaced.

These same video makers were keying people cars in the parking lot feeling all righteous because they were not Ford vehicles. One young employee was in tears because her parents brand new car had been keyed. Nice. She quit before her FCG rotations were up, and nope she did not buy a Ford vehicle precisely because of the bullying behaviors of the video makers and keyers.

Did the bullies ever understand that their behaviors ensured the percentage of Ford vehicles in the parking lots continued to decline? Nope, they all patted their righteous selves on the back. By 2019 ITEK parking lot was majority non-Ford. How about those apples?

Yup @trp+1balKprK I am sure you want everyone to ignore problems so the dole checks keep coming.
Whenever someone employees the shut up and go away line, you always know they don’t have sound reasoning and logic on their side.

My daily driver is a Toyota which has not had a single issue since I purchased it. 90K miles on it.

I also still drive a 1979 F150 that I bought from a retired farmer 25 years ago. He had replaced the engine with an AC 433 Diesel engine. The engine now has over 500k miles on it. The truck has been repainted and reupholstered a few times, and had many parts replaced, the AC 433 engine my she is sweet and reliable. I surely do wish Ford built a quality engine like that.

Plenty of full time Ford employees posting or reading comments here. And like me, I believe many of them will not even consider buying one of our new vehicles currently for sale at dealerships. Our quality is so awful right now I cannot even recommend to family or friends to buy one of our products. It saddens me how bad it's gotten with no convincing plan by management to solve it.
If you actually think the upcoming launches will be trouble free and we're done with recalls for the year....you're in for a BIG surprise.

I work at Ford (actual employee) in Dearborn. I would bet all of the posters are contract and not real Ford employees. Your opinions don't matter much to the people who actually have skin in the game.
Please feel free to find employment other places if you are so negative on the company putting food on the table, putting clothes your kids, and paying the rent on your apartments.

Not a Ford. When you know all the issues going on that are current and simmering future quality issues - why subject myself to that.
