They avoided 181 million dollars in taxes here. Was it worth it? I submit that if you totaled the bonuses given the unethical leaders for the money “saved” with the scheme and the legal staff salary and lobbists salary Ford did not save any money in the end.
What would of happened to a whistle blower who reported the unethical behavior to the tip line? Ostracized and Fired of course.
It is troublesome as there are many other ethical lapses, and the company seems to focus on “clever” schemes and marketing and lobbying rather than manufacturing affordable safe and reliable vehicles. No one wants to buy an overpriced vehicle that will have major problems after 2-3 years. So yah people lease Ford vehicles as they know they are made by Ford as disposable items. The people who want to keep a vehicle for over 2-3 years buy Honda, Toyota, Subaru
This company reminds me more and more of Enron, oh sure they were the cleverest guys in the room, had tremendous debt load, and they even had the presidents backing and help, and then poof an external event exposed the whole house of cars.

@kms+1bbEuEtp you are so right. They knew exactly what they were doing and constantly boasted at exploiting the loophole. It was always known what they were doing and why.

They will negotiate this down significantly with commitments for new production in the US. The current administration is all in for BEV's. Ford just has to build a battery plant or two to make this almost go away.

Karma.
First lobby the government to tax the innovator and maker of vehicles people actually want.
Then sit on your laurels and continue to produce vehicles people really don’t want.
Complain again to the government whenever some foreign company out innovates and makes vehicles customers want.
Then later purposely deceive the government and skirt laws that you initially insisted upon.
Yes, it was on purpose. They even bragged about how clever the scheme was in the quarterly all hands meetings when they started the practice and a few times since.
It shows the culture of arrogance and poor character of Ford.
