Who comes up with these tv ads? I just saw an IBM commercial for hybrid cloud that was showing some football practice/training. What does hybrid cloud have to do with football?

IBM has never marketed well to consumers, and has never made a good consumer product. The Charlie Chaplin ads were fun but the PC itself and OS/2 were too complex to be usable.
Lol
Marketing can only do so much without a great innovative product.
IBM needs to dump Marketing and hire a firm who knows what they’re doing to clean up the image.
IBM used to make funny commercials on TV up to the early 2000s. It was always really entertaining to watch, and from my perspective these commercials where very effective. You watch them all on YouTube. But then something changed and since they started to make serious commercials they have been really bad and totally ineffective.
IBM Cloud and football have one big thing in common:
There are a lot of downs in both.
For some unknown reason, many managers seem to like sports analogies. (LOL!)
Agree that TV isn't the best place for IBM to advertise B2B initiatives IMHO.
IBM forgot how to market a long time ago. It's pathetic. Hybrid Cloud is only interesting to businesses, not consumers. The typical person watching TV is not a potential buyer. They won't understand and won't care. So why does IBM waste a fortune on TV? Just to be on TV, I guess.
