Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Mass Exodus?

In the past few weeks, I have seen numerous posts on LinkedIn from Sr Directors, Directors and Managers announcing their departure from Nike. From the ones I personally know, they are SOLID employees with 5+ years at the company. There have been so many to the point that I have wondered if additional mini lay offs occurred. I’ve noticed a common theme of them being mostly all male, but not all white.

Has anyone else noticed this? I feel like patience is running thin and there is no direction right now.

not all are voluntarily leaving, some are being notified in advance or can see that they'll be laid off or are told that their band will be reduced. there are positions that were eliminated only to be "replaced" by a similar role in a lower band. whatever donohoe/mckinsey touches, withers

I know of at least a few people that are looking to find other opportunities. More are waiting for the IT organization to finally re-re-organize and see where how bad the layoffs are and whether they are still around before they make their decision on stay or go. There is no direction and people are unhappy.
Another person posted about the Perez fiasco being bailed out by the strength of the company and other leadership still in place - that has all been eroded.
IT suffered when AW took his turn in 2014 and has never recovered.

@3pgj, no one had to stay until bonus is actually paid out in August. If you were employed until end of day on June 1, you will get your bonus even if you leave anytime after 6/1. You just cannot get it if you were fired because of performance or for violating policies. This basic information everyone SHOULD know!

Why would anyone willingly leave when so close to bonus time?

Anyone with a common sense and a brain would leave that hot political mess of a company!

Are there really people who still like the Portland area?
If so, they must only know it from postcards.

I think everyone's motives are different. Some people are money or career driven while others just like the Portland Area. Totally up to who you are in terms of what drives you.

@2erb, the money is absolutely nice and it provides, most of the the time, an incentive to accept the offer. I can personally say that it is not the be all end all the reason to leave Nike. For example, I have accepted a fully remote role with another company where my new salary is slightly less than my Nike salary. Yes, I have a better bonus and a better 401k and a one-time sign on bonus. It almost works out to the same salary. I do not need to uproot my family move. I do not have to sell my home and buy another. I do not have leave my friends.

I know tons of folks hopping companies right now. Companies are paying a-s tons to steal talent from competitors or other companies in general. When someone is offering 60-80k above your current asking… wouldn’t you take it regardless of loyalty to Nike? I would.

I know a guy at Nike just took a new job, he was a director here making 180k. He’s leaving Nike for 240 and moving to Atlanta. Dude is a bro, but I respect him chasing money.

Lots of people are leaving adidas too. I can't say die what reasons specifically, but a ton of directors and higher have left since March. I'm half assed looking as well. Really can't stand the bro/sports circlej--k culture anymore and have no interest working with my team in person.

I know for a fact that half of my team is actively interviewing externally (all managers and above). Myself included.

It's all virtue signaling... They need employees to fill up WHQ and the campuses again. Otherwise it'll be a huge commercial real estate flop.. Employees have relocated else where or don't like the idea of commuting anymore. For around 100 years ever since Henry Ford invented the modern work schedule M-F with weekends off that has been the norm. COVID has changed that.

I for one as a ETW, can no longer afford housing in the " Silicone Forrest". I'm priced out.. So unless John Donhue wants to build us barracks or give us a housing allowance. Him and all the managers can STFU....

I too have noticed this latest exodus. Unclear if they were voluntary or, as @OP stated, "mini layoffs." Whatever the reason(s), I believe we will be hearing more about people leaving; many have had enough of this nonsense. Personally, I would rather have a root canal without a numbing agent than listening to JD talk ever again. That man is a tool! He really is trying to sell us on the concept of mental health and taking care of ourselves when his and his direct reposts' actions are what causing many of us to have sleepless nights, anxiety, and frustration. The final act, for me, was their "return to work" fiasco! Keep your expensive building; I do not want to be inside one of them ever again.

Noticed the same. I think this is more about people waiting for 6/1 to secure their PSP snd then bailing. A lot more to come in the days ahead.
