Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is this true?

I've heard of cases where people accepted promotions that came with relocation and were laid off within a year or two. It sounds a bit illogical and not likely to me but I have to ask, is this true? I've been made an offer but I'd hate to uproot my entire family even if there's a slight possibility that I might end up jobless shortly after.

Anything can happen in “a year or two”. Anything!

Is it handwriting or typewriting?

The handwriting was on the wall for at least two years before AMBU got sold off. Anyone that took an assignment there (except those with no other choice) deserved to get left hanging.

I knew a guy who took an overseas assignment, moved family, settled in, and then was shipped back to Houston within six months when the role was cancelled.I also knew an id--t who took an overseas job, moved all his stuff then decide wife wasn’t happy there. Back to Houston after six months.

I know several people who just moved to AMBU and walked straight into a closing BU. Some were laid off. They received severance plus relo. It happens all the time. The business moves forward as if nothing is wrong to not raise suspicions. The pawns are moved into place in spite of, or rather… as a part of the master plan, only to be slaughtered. If a BU were to suddenly put a freeze on hiring, everybody would know something is wrong. The herd would be spooked.

The OP is talking to a relocation; not an International Relocation. @cdb b**t hurt because you have never been selected for an overseas assignment.

This happens all the time. Since about 2016, though, the only people getting promoted and relocating are high-pots who are well taken care of. Usually they did a 2-3 year stint to gain "experience" (sight-seeing, houses, restaurants, kids' schools, nannies, cooks, other high-pots), then would be repatriated at Company expense.

Yes. This happens, but typically they pay to move you back. Huge pain though.

If they lay you off within a certain time period following the move they typically will pay the cost to move you back home. If they hold off for a few years the move home is back on you.
