Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

How to tell HON is completely messed up

You KNOW things are bad when people have two fears: one is of being laid off and another of NOT being laid off. I can't tell you how many people have told me they are terrified of being laid off but they are still hoping their name is on the next list to get out of this mess. Tell me there's nothing wrong with that...

I'm really hoping for that sweet HON RIF severance so i can move on. I won't give them the satisfaction of quitting nor will I give them an easy out. Nope! You're going to RIF and pay me.

After the repeated loops of layoffs, most of my colleagues have stopped caring, too damn exhausting every time they read that stupid script answer about “re-org” and “business alignment”

Management messed up yet others are punished for their bad strategies that keep biting them

I retired years ago. The first thing I did, as I wasn't ready for full retirement, was to go to work as a contractor doing the same work as I did at Honeywell ... for Honeywell. When I worked at Honeywell the message was clear -- they wanted me to go away. When I worked as a contractor the dynamic was entirely different -- my manager hoped that I wouldn't quit. Very refreshing and no bu-----t office politics.

Fear is the primary emotion at Honeywell these days. Just no life here… we don’t celebrate and we don’t Lift up folks that have failed.
Nothing good grows from fear. It ki--s innovation and risk taking. It poisons success with doubt.

If you're a HW lifer, and have known little else, then being pushed out of the nest may be one the BEST things that ever happened to you. This will force you to REALLY/TRULY look for a better job. A typical caveat for this statement is leaving before you turn 50ish.

After that ageism rears it's ugly head, although in the immediate post-COVID work environment, many employers will be looking to hire-back better after clearing out the de@dwood of last year's RIFS...

@emc...

@hig here. I totally agree with you. What I hold out for is the desire to reduce US workers. I doubt that my offer would be accepted but I would try.
I have seen you scenario played out more than once. Volunteers not accepted and others let go. No should doubt what you state.

@hig
"Good thing is that if I go someone that really wants to stay may be able to."
Except, that's not how it works. If you volunteer and are not going to be a regrettable departure, they will accept your offer. If you will be a regrettable departure, they will deny your offer.
That has no bearing on whether the other guy, that you think wants to stay, stays or not.
For the most part they have a number to meet and volunteers are gravy.

I know that if they announce another RIF I will raise my hand. Our team got so small that if we lose one more person I just don't want to be one of the ones left behind.

Good thing is that if I go someone that really wants to stay may be able to.

But I don't think we would get hit but just can't tell these days
