Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

You have several choices

So many here are complaining about the company, the union and who knows what else comes to mind. Well, all of you have several choices. You can continue to complain and be miserable, you can do the bare minimum while taking advantage of the company (which will make you less miserable, I assume) or you can work on improving your skills and leaving this place behind (which again should make you less miserable, hopefully.) Choosing option one is on you, not on the company or the union.

The op sounds like a dm or director, maybe a manager. People are complaining because conditions have become worse. If you don’t want people complaining then create a better culture, pay structure, and overall work environment.

Just because the “company” makes changes doesn’t mean they’re the right ones.

Call the union. More like get on your knees and beg the union. Oh wait you already do that.

Retirement will be the least of your concerns. Let's just keep our little eyes on the prize before us.
Call the union and express your desires to work at home where Uncle Verizon can have a more positive influence on your career experience.
Like your mother, we will always look out for you.

If you have a part time gig, then you are not retired.

Not true, when I retire I have a part time gig lined up selling phone chargers and cases.

@rpp you are wrong. Union associates are able to find careers at other jobs where you just take pay and benefits and give nothing back in return. Like government.

Pay no mind to @rpp. You have no need to concern yourselves with your employability. Uncle Verizon will always need you. We will always protect you. We will train you with all the skills we need you to have. No need to waste your time or money.
What you need right now, and what we cannot do for you is to convince the union to support universal work from home. We do not want you to be forced back into the filthy, diseased call centers and garages. We want you to be separated from your pathogen carrying co workers and union representatives.
Help us to keep yourselves healthy. Call the union. Tell them you don't want to put yourselves and your families at risk.
We only want the best for you.

Union associates are unemployable anywhere else.

Amen. Preparation has taken a lot of anxiety off my plate. I’m sure there is a degree of this in every organization, but it for a long time I have felt like I am just waiting for the inevitable layoff. I’m tired of that feeling. I finally woke up and realized it isn’t doing any good waiting. Time to move into a more growing industry instead of trying to maintain grasp on a shrinking one.
