Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Olden Days

It seems that they are doing this ALL WRONG! It is the "Old Timers" (north of 55) who, for the most part, are what is NEEDED to keep HW afloat. We, myself included, have that old school mentality to show up for work everyday, on time, do quality work, sustain through the hardest of times with a commitment like no others. People could learn from us the true meaning of honest days pay for honest days work. If for some reason, HW would consider bringing you back, would you go? I know I would. Folks today could use and learn from examples we set, catch on, and help to remake HW into some semblance of what it used to be. (Not a troll, just curious).

@rsx

Yup, the young workers provided me their finished work in half the time. I then corrected all that slop and it ended up taking longer than just doing it myself.

I don't think it is age or work ethic as much as experience. I remember when I was 24 starting out, didn't have a clue. I really see it now in rear view mirror. I see lots of jobs were you can't be effective unless you have subject matter expertise. Unfortunately, Hon does not value experience. They want to believe anyone can do anything, every job is just a task. And there is little to no training. The 9 behaviors are worthless. Hon is loosing experienced workers, all ages, and replacing with first hires, contractors and off shore go getters who don't know what they are chasing. I plan to retire soon. I would only return as a part time contractor in a very low stress job for pocket money. I plan to focus on retirement not working.

For the UOP part, I would definitely go back to it if it was like anno 2009.
Now? sure! As a contractor at three times my last salary.

I put in 25 years. Never on a PIP. Worked hard, put in extra time only when needed to make a delivery. I progressed higher than I ever thought I would. Even with that, I would never go back. Too much stress the last few years. EEI was the deciding factor. It’s stealing plain and simple. I had no problem putting in the time when needed. To require it every week is unethical and I won’t work for an unethical company.

I learned from some of the best people in the company on different topics, most were vets from Vietnam or other wars, they have good stories to tell, very knowledgeable and have great ethics

I did receive a request to come back after the mandatory one year. They offered me less than half of what i was making. I told them I would come back for $50k per week, never got a reply.

@yut, OP here, I'm with you 100%. HECK YES! What most folks don't realize is "what's in charge" at honeywell, not "whose in charge". Bring back the true managers that had the backbone and b@lls to stand up for what was right, who didn't buckle under corrupt leadership and who were truly there for their employees. It would take some time and a whole lot of effort to get "us" to come back, but I seriously believe the possibility is there!

Did exactly that for 39 years. Came in weekends/holidays for free anytime to meet commit dates or customer needs. Mentored the highly talented younger generation coming in. Took personal care of my workplace. Was the go to person for any issues with any of our equipment. Made sure we complied to the many, many audits that always seemed to be happening. Obviously could perform any function with the highest quality within our workgroup. Received a Pip and consequently, happily retired. No thank you for a return to work.
