Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

How drastic of a career change did you have to make?

There are a lot of stories here from those who finally found relief, got higher payment, better benefits when they left this company. However, no one specifies whether they had to leave the aerospace sector for better conditions, or just this company?
I like working in this sector, but it seems that I will have to look for a better job in a completely different industry.

No desire at all to return to the aerospace/aviation industry. Too many petty people trying to run the show.

I left L3 and work for a better company still in the same industry. Better pay, bonuses are given, even if you are not a manager (WOW). So, you can stay in the same industry. You just gotta keep looking and trying

Went to Raytheon. Never looked back. Not even once.

It seems like HR (who must have nothing better to do) is on a fishing expedition here pretending to be a new grad in a job search. Funny.

Can you kindly give a hint as to what company you went to?

Most of the younger aerospace graduates I know have left the sector altogether, finding more stability and higher pay in areas like IT, civil project engineering, health care systems, government, etc.

The guy that they hired to be a new shipping supervisor at my location knew nothing about shipping. Nothing. He literally sat around all day and watched as dozens of mistakes were made daily. Items shipping to wrong addresses, incorrect labels, etc. He actually had no idea of how to order boxes!
There were delays because he didn't have 'the right size' box to ship out units. Seriously?!
This was a department manager! They brought him in to be the so-called expert (which turned out to be a joke) because shipping used to be run by someone who had been there for thirty years and they thought his methods were out of touch. Well, at least the old guard employee knew what a box was and how to get it shipped out! I guess this was too much to ask for someone hired to be a manager.

I took a job in a warehouse. Less pay but I absolutely could not stand the air head supervisors at l3 anymore. Most of them have 0 experience and just fake/lie to upper management while all the people that actually work pay for it. L3 is so far lost I saw 0 incentive in staying. I make less money but at least I don't wake up every morning hating my job. Worth it.

I left Harris three years ago and I am better off now. My company offers 8% 401K match. Plus, we get an annual bonus of 20% of our annual salary. It can be 100% if you meet all your objectives or 80% if not. The company also pays for personal phones and we can lease vehicles through an internal program for employees.

Just this company. For example:
401K match:

  • Northrop Grumman: 6% dollar for dollar
  • GD: 6% dollar for dollar
  • Boeing: 6% and 12% contribution dollar for dollar

I left and went into logistics and shipping. With the supply chain backlog this year my company is doing better than ever before. Just recieved my biggest bonus ever. Defense contracting is a bloated government subsidy now days. I hope the faucet gets turned off because alot of tax dollars are wasted in defense budgets.

After years of experiencing the never ending saga of working for a mercurial company that simply could not stop changing its name from L3 Communications to L3Technologies now L3Harris and with each name iteration came new management, more layers of failed policies, continual draining of the company resources, erosion of the sales base -it never stopped. So I packed up and left L3 and the entire broken industry in my rearview mirror and I've never been happier and have never looked back.
