Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Does Chevron hire people with disabilities, specifically someone who is blind/visually impaired?

I realize the legal answer is yes, but I am looking more along the lines of existing employees that have a disability outside of being mobility impaired. Can anyone anonymously speak to examples of blind or deaf individuals currently employed by Chevron? I ask because the question was posed to me by a friend that is blind and he asked it in a similar manner. Yes, he knows what the official legal policy is, but is it even possible to get your foot in the door if this is a factor in your life. I was at a loss, because I am not aware of anyone and more importantly I'm trying to wrap my head around how someone can navigate our data systems. Try text to speech on a few key applications for 5 minutes and you'll know what I am talking about. I just don't see it being navigable, but I'm encouraging him to apply because I'm not going to let my own private concerns dissuade him from something that might work out great for him.

Half the supervisors and managers at Chevron have their own disabilities— mostly associated with the inability to manage personnel, mentor direct reports, instill accountability, or engage with their employees to know exactly what it is they do on a day-to-day basis. Some supervisors and managers arguably have mental and social disabilities that inhibit them from being even the least effective in their roles. So, the answer is YES, the company does hire people with disabilities.

If they bring diversity in ability, they help the company MORE than another person so this is a factor.

As long as they are not a white male, they should not have a problem getting a job at Chevron.

Reasonable accommodation only goes so far, as at the end of the day all employees must add value commensurate with their cost. So the first question then is how can your blind friend add value better than other applications for a job, and only then is the question of needed accommodations relevant.

I hired an intern a few years ago who was legally blind. She needed some accommodations to deliver on her scope of work but otherwise it wasn’t a big deal. She has mentioned bough that she does run in to significant barriers getting her foot in the door with her visual impairment.

This company is full of blind leading the blind. I'm confident that your friend can bring more insight than the fools we have here with "20/20 vision"

So you ask this question on a layoff's board for some strange reason or are you just another troll trying to stir the p-t?

Yes there are blind employees. You can get connected to them through the Enabled employee network. Whatever your ability, you need to be able to do a job and add value at Chevron.

I suggest that your friend applies to a modern company with the capability, innovation and technology to accommodate persons with disability. Chevron is the Blockbuster chain in waiting.
Chevron speaks of going "digital", yet these claims are superficial and designed to swindle the unwary investors. Chevron also has a bizarre and twisted view of "diversity."
Two words to describe all these initiatives - "hot air". Entire teams have been stood up with plenty of hot air without any meaningful results that enhance the bottom line.

I wish CVX embraced diversity in the truest essence. But unfortunately you have to be “titillating” to depraved middle aged men to get ahead in this company - this is how diversity is embraced right now at cvx.
