Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Instead of raise, you can only get an excuse

Getting a raise here is a mission impossible. IBM is always ready with an excuse not to give you a raise. What’s the most lame excuse you got instead of the expected raise?

My manager tried to convince me that in the remote town where ibm is the only (major) tech employer, i am getting paid more than median salary for that town.

Can you believe how illogical that sounds!!

They're saying that i earn more than some grocery store/Mcd/retail workers so i should be fine.

I didn't tell them how d-mb that sounds bec there's no use. Am young with 5yoe and am gonna move tf away because they dgaf about employees.

Bruh.. ibm pays lowest in tech i agree with other commentor , just look outside.

Even if they give a raise it's peanuts like 2%, 3% etc. My rent increases more than that even during pandemic

HR here is toxic about any conversation regarding raises or compensation.
I've been called "entitled" because my pay was significantly less than market. The promotion raise was still not enough despite my high performance and manager vouching for me. I am glad I left

"Raises come from promotions and providing more value. If you continue to do your same job you provide the same value, and get the same pay. "

Except for the concept of "inflation".

Unfortunately, if the cost of living goes up, but salaries do not... then the game the Fed plays to keep inflation up... does the job it's intended to do... give a house edge to the sell side.

In days gone by a thing called "cost of living allowance" or similar was a real thing.

I get a raise every year. Out of 15 years I’ve only not gotten one once. Maybe try harder bruh

I asked for bitcoin and they gave me blue points. BP BC, yeah close. I can see how they would get confused.

"pool was so small had to prioritize other ibmers. with lower PMR. next year it should be larger."

  • manager

same story every year because ibm gives all the money to shareholders and debt
