Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How would you feel after being heavily se-----y harrassed?

MY STORY: I was massively se-----y harassed and dealt with it on my own. This was several years ago, but I'm still affected by it to this day. I chose not to legally respond. Now I'm stuck in a situation where I can no longer receive a raise perpetually (I think this applies to all admins). This is a recent HR change that has not been shared.

Surprise? No. Another sneaky change behind our backs. I'm heart broken. I know my value, but clearly they don't care and want the cheapest labor. Why admins? We work our as--s off!!! We know where the bodies are buried. Are you insane? We carry the burden of your secrets, yet you pay us the lowest and now we have a cap? Why? Is this your way of cost savings? Seems asinine to me.

Yes, please do fire me and give me a package. I'll see you in court.

Yes it's me the OP. Many have reached out knowing this was my post (at the time (2014/15) told to STFU and not talk about it to anyone); after a few years I finally felt free to share "MY STORY" verbally. Now in 2021, to be able to write about it has been very cathartic. Thank You for the support! All of my years working here have been extremely/emotionally difficult and I've had to hide it. As for those that were aware, party and knowing, I hope you hold guilt until your dying breath. As for the person that reported it and stole my voice, you did the right thing. At this point, I'm expecting to be let go. Please look out for yourself and your work colleagues as sometimes we're afraid (terrified). A strong personality and/or confidence doesn't mean we won't be victim to a predator.

@gaz is correct.

If you get capped you get your normal raise every year but it is paid out to you in a single check. And that “raise” is on the same frozen base every year which means your pay is essentially going backwards over time. Example:

  • you’re capped at $70,000.
  • you get a 2% “raise”, or $1,400 paid to you in a check
  • the next year you get the same thing, etc., etc.

When people are capped at Nike it usually means they’ve been in the same job too long and should probably start looking for a new job either internally or externally. No use staying in a job where not only are you guaranteed to never make more money than you currently make but your pay goes backwards the longer you stay.

Just not acceptable, on any level, at any company. Is Nike so powerful that they can intimidate EEOC lawyers, if he was fired, you have your smoking g-n.

Two things:

1) Get a lawyer and sue, hopefully you kept all of the text messages etc. That should not have gone on as long as it did.

2) Every band has a cap. However, in past years, Nike would still reward capped employees with a one time bonus, yearly if necessary. Not sure if that practice is still in play but it was a few years ago.

Sorry to hear of your situation.

Just as an FYI that salary cap you mention is not unique to admins. All V-band thru S-band jobs at Nike have a salary cap. You typically only hear about this if your own salary is nearing that cap.

I’m a U-band employee and was just told last week that after my raise this year I will have reached the salary cap for my job. That means if I stay in this role my salary will never be higher than where it’s currently at.

I’ve been told this happens at Nike more often than people realize. We don’t hear about it because salaries are usually private and because most people who get capped out don’t want to share such a humiliating detail with colleagues.

You should seek legal representation immediately and go after Nike with everything you got. Do not just suffer! You are not alone. What happened to you is disgusting just like the company for which we work.

Physically assaulted in my first two months of employment,TERRIFIED that I would be fired. Stalked by trying to follow me home weekly. Showed your hard on junk to me in the middle of the day and kept dropping a pen for me to pick it up (around 2pm). Constant texts that were extremely disturbing. And... ja--ing off on the phone while on a Euro trip and finishing while on the phone. Yes, this all happened and more. End result? He was let go, but "I" was left to deal with the aftermath. I went through therapy, but to this day, I'm not the same. Thanks Nike. This went on for around 8 months of my first year. Again, Thanks Nike. Now I'm not allowed a raise ever again? You treat us admins like dirt and don't care what we go through. Not only do I deserve a raise, I also deserve hazard pay. AND...I DESERVE AN APOLOGY!!
