Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Working without break

Do you even have time to take a break during the working day? I work literally for months without a break. From the time I start working, and until I’m done, I absolutely have to be 200 percent focused on the job, like I’m some kind of machine.

I can’t believe a little less stressful day has finally come. I may be able to endure this constant stress for another month, and after that I am ready to leave even if I do not receive a new offer in the meantime, because such working conditions are not normal.

Just one point that I suspect is the crux of the work at home issue for the union. Seems plausible that it might be easier to get rid of people if they are working at home. Out of sight out of mind. Maybe the union is looking at that aspect. Or maybe its all about control for them. If you're not under their thumb then they lose some control. So the issue may be a combination of union self-preservation and trying to keep the company of ki----g jobs. Nothing is ever plain cut and dried.

I'm union. I went on disability. Life is good.

This hasn’t devolved to that point yet.

Managers do work a lot and I respect that. You also get great perks; 5 weeks of vacation, better 401k, work from home has been decided already, actual movement, etc, etc.

For the the company haters. This is a GOOD company that will be here a long time. You work hard, move up, and you will be rewarded.

For the union haters. The union has bargained for good healthcare, job security, and they have an amazing camaraderie within their organization.

Neither is perfect. In management, job security is based on your merit. In the union, they’re stubborn on change, just look at the members fighting for work from home.

At the end of the day, we’re all human. This us against them mentality is trash. I really hope the future is brighter for the 2.

Op, you probably aren’t cut out for this type of job. You should look elsewhere.

Union people, keep fighting for what you believe in. If you want work from home, the union has to listen to you.

I think we were gonna be treated to another round of "but, I'm more productive at home! Let me stay home!" He says he's working 200%, but he didn't specify union or Management, so he could easily work it either way.
As if there haven't been enough b!tching about union work at home.
I wonder where he goes from here...

Yep... He changed his tack.
Pulled out his 'union/management neutral, but overly sensitive' character.
I think we're all supposed to be amazed at this surprising twist.
Everyone gasp in surprise!

I don’t mind people going back and forth about the union and the company. I like both, which seems be a minority opinion here.

Only thing that gets me is that racist and sexist cr-p that gets posted on here. If I had to deal with that everyday, I wouldn’t want to go back an office either.

Bsm, they were due to post about 15min ago. Give them at least 20 more min to regroup and decide their next step.

Yep. Here we go. It looks like we're going down the "management sucks cause you get worked like a dog" path. The next question is, will he stay on script, or pick another path now that he's been called out.
Stay tuned for another episode of As The Stomach Turns.

It is like that sometimes for me too but other times not so bad. Some groups are feast or famine depending on the time of month or year or whatever is going on.

Those comments about breaks and lunch being a law. Yes employers are required to offer. Unions will make you take them. Non-union people (salaried) usually make that choice themselves. Either way there is an entitlement to a break and lunches that a company can't disallow, but unless you are in a union, it's an entitlement that you can take or not depending on what you want to do. Just like most salaried can take their break or lunch whenever they feel like it. There's something to say for both worlds.

@khg... I think you're right. I think he's copying and pasting. I'm sure I've read all these posts before. He's obviously keeping a lid on the voting for now. Check back tomorrow, or in a week. He'll loose control sooner or later.

I worked the whole pandemic without a day off in the field.
I’m more disgruntled than ever, looking forward to retiring very soon.

Wow... This again...
No, this is about the time the anti-OP, anti-@daf, anti-@gnt comments begin.
All are obviously the same old troll trying to generate another pointless pro/anti union insult-fest just so they can up/downvote while playing with themselves.
Maybe you've got a final post you're going to direct the thread to so that you can feel insightful.
So transparent, hackneyed, unimaginative, and boring.
Go ahead... Downvote this post until you've got a bucket load, if it makes you feel better. Or, get to the point and post your "gotcha" speech. Or both.
Whatever you're going for this time, let's cut to the chase.

If you're union, you better be taking two paid 15 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch.
