Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How much experience have you gained while at Ford?

I am in exactly the same situation as someone who mentioned that looking for a new job is greatly hindered by the fact that he has not gained much experience. After so many years here, it is only now clear to me that I have wasted most of my time here. I’m not saying I haven’t learned anything, but I think in some other company I would have had many more opportunities to expand my skillset than I had here.

None, all looked at the other experience I gained EXCEPT at Ford.

I think the best part of Ford is they will pay for tuition.

My advice - ask for help, generally - and I agree with the earlier commenter - your manager will not stand in your way. Though the percentage of those types is going down fast.

Another advice - I am sure you know this, but dont say i am not learning anything, say i want to learn more/ do more etc. If you say the former, soon you will get an "anonymous" survey that is basically a "on paper confirmation" that you said the former and soon you will see bad repercussions of it, upto and including termination.

Better still keep trying outside. Just the fact that you thought about it means you are very capable. Just get a job outside and you will not have to deal with any of the above Ford c&^p.

Best of luck!

Ford paid for part of my undergrad and all of my graduate degree. I have been to dozens of training classes, inside and outside the company during the last 15 years to increase my knowledge base. Additionally, I have worked on a lot of very interesting projects over that span of time.

My experience has been that the opportunities are there, but you have to go after them. Don't expect your supervisor (sorry people leader) or anyone else to point them. There isn't a lot of incentive for PL' to grow their report's careers given the risk of losing headcount. With that said, I've never had a PL stand in my way on moving to new opportunities either.

Unfortunately welcome to the Ford conned club. You join the company and HR & management feed you a continuous line of lies on how you are Ford's future and all the other older workers are useless to them. Full of hope you sell your soul and work yourself into the ground only to watch the worst of the worst rise to the top. You work harder because you buy the next lie of you just need this or that experience or more visibility. That too turns out to be a lie, but now you have been at Ford so long you have been competitively de-skilled and you are trapped. If you are like me, you have a retirement benefit and your life is now just trying to live another day to book your 30.
