Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How much will XOM change in the next five years?

I'm asking primarily about our operations, are there any jobs that are safer from others, so to speak? With the push for green energy growing and the courts not siding with O&G companies, I'm worried that the days of traditional XOM might be over sooner than we expect.

Whatever the change is it won’t be for the better. Place is a sinking ship.

There will be more guys, females and minorities and fewer white males. And a lot more telephone time and emails with Indians, Argentinian, Vietnamese, etc. No pension and no retiree health care. Little to no upward mobility. One half of the crystal palace will be leased. There will be fewer refineries in Europe. CAPEX and OPEX will be at today's levels. It will be the same sunflower management and the PIP program will be alive and well. God bless you All.

@OP Anyone who wants to see where EM is going to end up need only look at GE. EM has essentially copied & pasted the GE playbook for managed decline.

If you are in operations look at the development plans for your field. Are you in an field that is receiving investment or slowly dying with declining production? Go to where the drilling is and will continue to be. Follow the investment.

XOMs plan is to offshore any jobs that can be done remotely. And offshoring for XOM no longer means hiring employees at offshore shop but rather offshore it to Managed Service Providers (MSPs). If you dont believe me ask you EMIT, Procurement, HR, and F&L colleagues. Jobs in those orgs. are rapidly transitioning to MSPs. Heck the HR VP, TG even mentioned to her team that if people are asking to WFH they better be aware that same jobs can also me offshored or sourced out.

Plant operations, supply chain (including product management- NOT IT product management, mind you), skilled trades and discipline engineering jobs will be the safest in terms of the job itself existing, though as you see with TMTS, etc. many could still be offshored
