Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Being made redundant soon but yet my manager wants us to work unpaid overtime

Most of us at this site are being made redundant before the end of the year.
My line manager wants and actually expects us to work unpaid overtime no questions asked until the bitter end.
My manager could not understand why several of us said no and had a right breakdown over it.
I tried to explain that we were being made redundant shortly, that we have no future with Honeywell and as far as I’m concerned, I owe them nothing apart from doing my hours within contracted hours.
All we get as a reason is that we still get paid until we go, that we are getting a redundancy package, not exactly motivation for doing unpaid work, but I guess that’s what you get from Honeywell line ‘yes’ managers.

I was told the same messaged last October....closing in June of this year.
Kiss mine DA..... I enjoyed life for all these months. Didn't do that much (except the cute one from 'sales), collected pay, collected severance and started elsewhere before my date was there.

If you’re salary, there’s no reason to not start a new job and just collect a paycheck from Honeywell. It’s salary, sometimes you work over 40, sometimes you just don’t at all. Lol

1phy: Everyone's circumstances are different. In my case I was in a group of 20 people that that was let go last summer. I had the service time in to get eight weeks of severance pay.

Like most people I have a home mortgage payment and other bills to help support my family along with my wife. I found a new job before the layoff with equivalent pay and better benefits and still have it.

I know of three of the folks that I'm still in contact with that stuck it out for the severance pay that ran out at the end of 2020. All three of them are still unemployed about six months later. So yes, I missed out on eight weeks of severance, but I'm currently employed and able to pay my bills. There's no guarantee when severance pay runs out that you'll find a new job when there's many people in your area with your skill set competing with with you.

There is no reason he can not be applying while working. Never turn away the layoff package unless you get a ki---r offer to leave early.

Also, if he is a contractor, he must be paid his overtime hours. Not doing so is asking for a lawsuit and fines.

OP, you might consider an early exit strategy. Look around and count the number of people that have your skills that will leave the same time as you when the layoffs happen at the end of the year.

It might be to your advantage to leave early, regardless of the redundancy package, and find a new job. When everyone gets let go at the same time you will be competing with all of them in your local job market for new jobs.
