Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What’s the deal with HR?

I’m new to Chevron and have seen a lot of posts on here about HR and RM. what exactly is going on that they are so frequently discussed? Sorry I’m so oblivious to it.

Thanks!

And letting those decisions float away. You obviously have no idea what our HR department does.

Jobs were downgraded because they really were not adding value. A PSG 26/27 HR manager does not add the same value as a petrotech solving million or billion dollar problems.

It’s a good time to escape!! Migrate to a better industry!!! “Why human resources job postings are spiking”

https://www.axios.com/human-resources-job-postings-increase-d169fbf7-aa5a-45b9-8146-7287b34acd24.html?utm_campaign=organic&utm_medium=socialshare&utm_source=email

“ Human resources job postings are up 52.5% from their pre-pandemic baseline. That's far outpacing the average job posting bump of 30.5%, according to data from the jobs site Indeed.

What's happening: Companies are beefing up their HR departments to navigate the return to work.

Firms are facing two massive challenges in the next year or so: They need to figure out what balance of remote and in-person work functions best for their workforce, and they need to fill open roles as droves of workers quit in "the great resignation."

Both problems require HR professionals to solve.
Companies are looking for remote work experts to help managers run hybrid or all-remote teams. And they're seeking experts in recruiting and onboarding to fill jobs quickly and seamlessly, says AnnElizabeth Konkel, an economist at Indeed.
The bottom line: Before the pandemic, the human resources department was on the automation chopping block. Now, as workplaces undergo rapid and dramatic transformations, it's essential.”

HRs are the same no matter where you are. HRs are "business partners" to defend the company interests at all times. If you're going to take an issue to HR, make double sure it's not petty or insignificant else you will eventually be let go as a liability.

HR represents the company in all matters. If you meet with HR because an issue with another employee their #1 goal is not to solve the problem, but to minimize the company's exposure to legal matters.

HR has never had the trust of employees. Can reiterate the Company policy but unable/unwilling to interpret policy for individual one-offs. Don't know the details of Company benefits as well as informed employees. Ombudsmen as usurped role that HR once had to mitigate employee-manager issues. HR is viewed as the mouthpiece of Company management and serve little purpose other than readying paperwork/documentation.

Zero trust, job downgrades, and no room for advancement. Pretty simple. HR post on here because they don't even trust their co worker they call "friends".
