How come you have managers at T who don't know how to do the job they supervise .

I herd once that it was called the harvard? business school style of management.
I don't have to know your job just how to manage you to get you to do it.

Because either a id--t or someone who is egotistical or insecure would take a 1st level job. Hasn’t been any incentive to take that job for 20 years

I know nothing about what my team does. Maybe that's why I got demoted? hmmmm

@1lbm…not really. They pretty much take anybody they can get.

But ‘your job’ doesn’t require you to manage; yet not one manager, I’m certain, has asked you why you can’t do his/her job. And only people who asks basic questions like this one illustrate the lack of aptitude to ‘manage’ anyone.

Because they were related to or friends with managers in that organization. It’s no secret that at T you need to know someone to get promoted.

Because his job is to manage, not to do you job. Duh!

The actual reason is the MBA degrees being sought by employers. The MBA degree teaches that people have no need to know the jobs they supervise, or anything about the business they are employed by. They only need to know management principles.......

That is the complete reason in a nutshell,

Management candidates want management because they have no desire to do the job...

It's not just an AT&T thing, it's every corporation that hires these MBA's.

The same reason our CEO is in charge of everything despite not having enough qualification to run the fry machine at the local Gulp n Ba-f.

I can only speak about management, If you have a technical role and can pull you own weight, the last thing you want to be is a people manager. Between level 2 management vs supervisor, the pay really isn't that much different if you been here for while. For that, why would anyone want to deal with all the BS, paperwork, and managing people with a near zero chance of promotion. Life is too short, enjoy your hobbies and family.

Can you say rubber gloves and FVD? You’re hired.

It’s actually normal for 1st line managers not to have any relevant experience for the jobs they are supervising. Somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of my supervisors have never done the job before. They’ve essentially just become secretaries to take care of employees administrative issues and run errands for 2nd levels.

It’s kind of a catch 22. Core employees don’t want to take a cut in benefits and pay and all the extra stress that comes with managing a crew, so you end up getting random people to become managers.
