Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How long can Permian keep pumping without Lease Operators?

It is a run for the exit. Those who weren’t looking sure are now that we are being asked to pick up the slack for all the resignations that haven’t been back filled. Doesn’t make sense to let whole batteries go down and not have the people to restart them. How can we be so foolish to not stop the bleeding while we still can? The cost of a lease operator compared to the down production that we are about to see is nothing. Why stay when you can make more across the street and not be asked to work so hard. Competitors pay more and have 401k. What is management thinking?

  1. The Iranian oil has already been on the market (black market via Iraq, and tanker to tanker transfers at sea)
  2. Monthly reports? These wells are monitored daily and in some cases by the minute. Who is going to write the procedures to fix problems? Who is going to monitor (on site) the repair operations? The field superintendents (and senior production engineers) have “street smarts” that no remotely located BTC employee will EVER be able to duplicate. Especially considering the enormous employee churn and reliance on a script. This work requires a MacGyver like ability to create solutions on the fly. Just not something you are going to get out of a call center environment.

Your post smells of someone with a serious lack of oil field knowledge (unfortunately a common problem at Exxon). Just out of curiosity what department are you in?

@baa+1bv06Jt5 Going to waste a lot of money trying to remote monitor from India. Can’t run a facility without boots on the ground. Too many people in this company haven’t spent time in the field. Reality is very different from what you are reading on those PowerPoints sunflower.

When the Iran sanctions are lifted and Iran starts selling more crude on the world market, WTI crude prices that are currently at $72 USD per barrel will drop and the Permian investments will no longer be "cash cows".

The motto, "Do more with less will continue in the Permian Basin for the next decade." With cloud computing provided by Microsoft, engineers in lower cost countries such as India can generate monthly reports and provide remote monitoring for most if not all Permian investments.

Maybe the reason we didn’t get invited to the baseball game is so we could work harder to cover for all the resignations.

Apparently management wants to find out because they keep PIPing us.

Management is thinking what does my manager want to hear not what does my manager need to hear even if they don’t like hearing it. Old reason too. We fired all the non sunflowers already and those left took note the way to survive is to be a sunflower. We talk about the problems - too many powerpoints, too many meetings, too many sunflowers, sandbagging estimates etc etc but never talk about the reasons why people do these things. The reason is our culture. People see what is rewarded and chase the rewards. Quit rewarding bad behavior and things will change. Talking about the symptoms but not treating the disease is what we are doing. We will never improve until we own up to what is causing it and fire those in management who are the reason for our culture. There is no accountability in upper management.

The eternal promise to look at bringing benefits back wasn’t convincing enough? Next time your supervisor asks you to do something tell them you will look at it really hard but can’t commit to a date for providing an answer. You’ll immediately be flagged as management material.

All joking aside it is unbelievable that management is just watching this slow motion train wreck and taking no action.
