Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Working at Nike costs more money than leaving..

As an ETW, I'm already priced out of the Beaverton/ Hillsboro area on a 60k a year salary. How do guys/gals do it? I'm trying to buy my first house and keep getting outbid or the homes within my budget.. Most homes are older 70s, 80s homes that are fixer uppers.

It seems everyone on my team grew up in the area, so they're sitting fat and happy as an FTE with a higher salary. The transplants, live with roommates lol ( in their late 20s and mid-30s) It's a type of Neofeudalism if you believe in the cult of Nike.

It seems if you want to continue working at Nike, you're going for broke... Yet they expect to return to the office. This is why most people quit. Remote work has freed up more finances by letting people to work further away, thus cutting your costs down.

It's literally cheaper to quit and move away.. Unless Nike wants to build ETW's barracks like in China?? lol

@qwc

60k is insanely low for the area, especially if you're working in IT. The only way I can fathom Nike lowballing so hard is that you're a woman of color.

Seriously, find a new recruiter and look for a different position within Nike and ask for at least $70/hr. Even if they counter with something lower you'll be making a sh*t ton more money than you are now. You can even look outside of Nike (now that you have your Nike job on your resume) and demand a higher salary/rate.

I don't have to know who you are or what you do to know that you undersold yourself at a corporation where people are milking the system all around you. I wouldn't accept a job for 60k at Nike, even if it was a security officer position. He-l, I got that at a small business that had horrible work culture and a more prevalent corporate environment for a 40 person company. Talk about a wage gap. It was awful.
Yeah, FLEX sucks but if you look at a lot of the departments that Nike has flushed multiple times when their stocks temporarily dip, it may be a safer bet being on contract. FTE's have been abused by layoffs. If you're a good worker, which I assume you are, and only minimally chip away at their budget, they'll extend you or find another ETW contractor for you. OR they'll just find an H1-B Visa worker to replace you, which has happened all over the Tech dept. The company, like most, put money first before its people. That's a corporation for you.
Nice Reddit spacing by the way.

Nike is becoming increasingly more and more rigid about enforcing the 2080 rule so don’t count on being extended.

And yes, you are incredibly underpaid.

1)You don't know me. How can you assume I didn't " sell myself" when You don't even know what role and department I work for.? You're making a strawman comparison without having knowledge. I work in Technology. You?

2) Knowing this, they're for sure getting a good deal on me. When I first started, I tried to negotiate for a higher salary and it was a " take it or leave it deal" Knowing this almost a year ago, I decided to jump at the opportunity at working for Nike. That facade quickly wore off...

3) My contract is almost up. I might have a chance re-negotiation again. It seems everything is last minute with Nike. One of my co-workers thought he was leaving near his term date, then last minute our boss and Flex extended his contract date. Then eventually he got a FTE gig. It's complete shitshow..

Lol what are you doing? Sounds like you didn't sell yourself when interviewing and they know they're getting a freaking good deal with you. I got $95k/year working as an ETW and was told if I want to come back, I could ask for $60/hr at the same position and probably get it. wtf are you even doing?? It's corporate, ask for what you want. C'mon man...this is just sad! Sell yourself better.

OP: Back in February I sat down and calculated how much money I saved working from home. It was a fair and objective undertaking where I accounted for both savings AND costs with working from home.

All in I’m saving about $450/month working from home. That figure did not even include a calculation for my time. If I had included my time that $450/month would almost double. I make about $80K/year so for me this is real money.

Reason #28 as to why I don’t want to return to the office and why I’m looking at 100% remote jobs.

I don't know what your role is but I paid ETW's $110 an hour. After supplier took their share the ETW brought home at least $132K annually (if 60% of $110 x 2,000 hours). Not all vendors take 40%.
