Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Shame!

To lay off people who were about to retire... just awful. Does it seem to you that the cuts are becoming more and more unscrupulous?
I’m safe for now but I’m embarrassed when I know what great people are laid off. I will actively look for a new job because I do not intend to invest any more efforts in this company. It probably suits them better, that I go on my own, but I don't want to suffer the humiliation to sooner or later become the target for layoff by completely unfounded standards.

@Lnol+1bvTbYNl the HR lady again. Are you implying just because TR has paid severance to some people it has RIF'd that everything is OK? No, don't spare a thought about how many thousands of people's lives have been affected through them being RIF'd and all of the extra work piled on to those left for no extra pay. Just so long as some people were paid severance.

I was one of those people laid off, I had less than two years to go, I felt as you did, but I also Realized that I was just a number and Obviously always just a number. I saw some ppl With strong work ethic, business knowledge and a passion for the job get laid off, it was awful and sad to see.

I knew my number was up when the split came. I could feel it, could see it, and the weird thing is I understood it, business is business. So I took advantage of the time I had left, built my skill set up, and onward I went making the best of it til my number was called.
Hang in there, good things come to those that wait

But it has been what 3 years since they started the serious lay offs…. So many people were laid off.. & you didn’t think that could happen to you because you are close to the retirement age?

If you’re about to retire why is it shameful to be laid off? They are actually doing you a major favor as you’ll be paid for close to a year for not working.

They have always been unscrupulous, underhanded, illogical and based on nothing other than self serving motivations.
If they wanted to handle this in the human way, they would reach out and ask for volunteers, or offer early retirement, or base it on something logical, like performance or tenure or a number of other things.
If you are close to retirement, HANG ON, let them pay you, those paychecks will feel so good while sipping on your drink of choice and relaxing. If you are not close to retirement, RUN and RUN FAST, the job market is good and TR looks good on a resume.
