Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This is where the fat is

All Ford needs to do is cuf loose approximately 40% of their management ranks as they are simply not needed. We have way too many, quite a few that have no supervisory responsibilities. Then up the reporting requirements to easily a minimum of 10 direct reports.

@rkt+1btMoXlW hits the nail on the head.

Company is in a very sad state. In a time of major transition they elect two family members with "ZERO" qualifications other than last name to the board. Yeah that makes people outside SE Michigan confident to invest in Ford. I hate to say this but ever since Ford 2000 this company has been going down hill. When Allan came in after Billy proved he did not know what he was doing. Had the company pointed in the right direction. But as someone told me once the minute Allan retires the creature of old habit will creep back in. Take away the benefits this company will have a mass exodus. Some good , average to poor workers will go. Place has good workers looking for confident management to lead . Explain your vision then provide a plan that everyone understands. I am sorry but I do not see or hear that today. All I hear is political "CR-P" which does not do anything for our sales. Billy in spring of 06 was fired by his own family. Guy is not a leader. Look at the train station! Why would you invest in that? Sorry to see this place go into the toilet. Because there are some good people there

@4pra+1bxhcMHM Those managers are planning for the next downsizing, oh you can’t cut me because I have so many people. LOL

I see you are in FC IT. FC IT is notoriously over staffed so maybe your group has plans for right sizing, in which case there is no need for more management. 26 people under a LL5 is actually rather light. (LL5=manager at Ford and FC)

My manager has 26 people under him. Manager next to him has 30. So in some places, it's too flat.

You’re correct, they do need to trim the managers who have no one to manage! In 2009 there were head count reductions that were aimed at “eliminating unnecessary structure” and many LL6s who were recently promoted were walked out. It wasn’t long before a flurry of promotions gave us, once again, too many managers with no one to manage. SRD was supposedly intended to balance the management chain of command and make sure every leader had at least four people to lead. Once again many good people were walked out. Didn’t take long before there was another flurry of promotions and more people hired. Ford has a pattern of promoting as a reward then slicing deeply into the LL6 tier when someone points out that they once again have too many managers. Are the people making these decisions forgetful, unable to learn from the past or just dim?

I was one of very few fixing issues as a Contractor I had three supervisors to report to who all wanted a separate status update and for me to attend up to three meetings a day. Finally I got a couple of hours to fix things. But my hands were also tied by demarcation. Not allowed to hold a spanner or meter. A employee would eventually turn up but some of them did not even know the basics of the job,

All of those 40% are on the friends and family plan, will never get laid off, or do any real work.
