Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I NSI’d Exxon

I looked at many of the companies that are hiring for my skill set and compared what they offer in terms of pay, work life balance, culture, benefits, location, etc and compared them and exxon using a forced ranking system. Exxon ended up in the bottom 3% (yes, there are a few that are worse than exxon). Since a PIP wouldn’t help exxon, I had to let them go without a PIL. The company I work for now is in the top 10% in the forced ranking. Life is much better. When I left, I didn’t tell my supervisor the real reason, I’ll let them figure it out. They don’t want to hear the truth anyway.

I agree. I’m looking around, a lot of jobs right now for engineers. Are the companies better than XOM? I don’t know, but I don’t think they can be worse. I’m not waiting around to get NSI’d sometime in the next five years, job market is very good right now, may not be in 2-3 years. The best time to find a great job is when you’re already employed. Most companies don’t want to hire someone who is unemployed.

I agree with OP. I worked for ExxonMobil for 8 years and never considered any other companies even though recruiters were calling me often. I think ExxonMobil sees reduced demand for their products and increased pressure from outside groups who have no interest in the financial success of ExxonMobil. The reduced demand and increased pressure is not a COVID thing, but is the future for oil, right or wrong. That is forcing ExxonMobil to reduce its workforce and shift to countries that pay much less. 8% NSI is here to stay for the U.S. and other high cost countries. I figured I would look around now while there are a lot of jobs in other businesses. Yes there are many industries and companies that are worse than ExxonMobil, but there are also many that are much better. Don’t look just at oil and gas, look at other industries also as your skills are transferable. Lastly, ExxonMobil looks great on a resume. In spite of what people on these boards write, companies want to hire people from ExxonMobil.

OP so you are saying the ranking system is a good way of doing evaluations and comparing relative performance? Copying is the highest form of flattery. You seem to have copied the system to make your own life decisions.

So many pathetic Exxon haters on the boards. Either you are bored doing nothing at work or too incompetent to look for a better job elsewhere.

So many pathetic Exxon cheerleaders on the boards. Either you are bored doing nothing at work or PR made up some silly new jobs to monitor layoff boards

OP I am afraid your supervisor and the company really doesn’t care about “the real reason”
