A lot of people hating on everything in this forum. So where is this alternate universe with a utopia I can work at? Name companies you would like to work at that are so much better. Probably a bunch of people who hired on at 22 and have only worked at Exxon. You’re going to be disappointed when you learn that every job sucks. That is why it is called work.

Exxon was always known as best paying company in the industry, but, the quasi military culture and many aspects of the worklife sucked. The deal was to accept the good money and deal with it. Now they are working (struggling) to lower the cost structures and replace the culture. It would make sense, except there is no vision of where this is going. Simply decreasing costs isn't sufficient. Waiting for the other shoe to drop....HR? Anyone?
Chevron has surpassed xom a few years now. Perhaps it is the poor xom leadership.

We are describing the cr@p of EM is. Do not try to turn our attention from the main problem.
There is no utopia. But that doesn’t mean you need to stay in the he-l that XOM is. There are enough companies out there that are not he-l.
By the way, I left XOM for a different company 2 months ago. I keep coming back to this board to see what’s brewing…. Hard to take your eyes off a train wreck.
The XTO culture that Exxon destroyed was what a lot of people complaining on here would have wanted. We fought hard to point out the flaws in Exxon (particularly the ranking system). Unfortunately, those that spoke the loudest were shown the door (which is probably the number 1 flaw at Exxon).
So everyone at ExxonMobil is evil and immoral. Got it.
Every place has its flaws. The question that you all need to ask yourself is: what are your certain moral thresholds that you will not cross.
If working with lying, deceiving and incompetent people day in and out who are willing to goto any disgusting extent to move a little ahead, doesn’t bother you, Stay here!! as the company does pay a little higher than a typical job shop. I didn’t want to be around losers and liars so I am leaving with other options, and it works for me.

Every company has its flaws, but everyone responds to those flaws differently. If EM’s flaws are intolerable, then you should absolutely leave for something different.
OP: Did you write this being a realist or are one of the XOM Koolaid drinkers. Agreed, no corporate company is perfect but XOM is just pathetic of all. The mgmt. from top to bottom just lies all the time. They dont own upto anything. Even when the information is leaked they still lie and say the reports leaked are wrong. Care is one of the leadership principle but it is for company and not for employees. 0 empathy. Old farts running the company 1980s way and slow like Dinosaours. The lazy mgmt. do not want to improve, modernize, and run the company innovatively and with agility. They just talk about this sh-t but dont put things in practice. How many koolaid fake XOM peers you have seen lately trying to pain the rosy picture at the companies furthering spread of lies. As an employee I can say there is NO other company and its mgmt. as bad as this old dinosaur. And before you ask why I am still here for 20 years, let me tell you I am already interviewing and will soon be out of this sh-t. Fu-k the pension, and RSUs. Enough is enough, no golden handcufff can hold me here anymore.
