Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Culture that beats and eliminates knowledge and skill

When did Cisco become such a company in which those who have the knowledge and skills that can very easily be transferred to another company are the least valued?
What is this all about, are mediocrities bothered by people who actually know how to do their job or is there some other reason? It has become humiliating to work here.

Cisco has the bad habit of always listening to the HiPPO (highest paid person's opinion) no matter how nonsensical that HiPPO's idea might be. That tends to frustrate skilled folks who quicly realize there are better options than the one proposed.

Technical skills, in particular, are despised, and these skills are very marketable especially in cloud, python, Ansible, YANG etc. As a consequence, Cisco losing its very skilled staff to FB, AWS, Google, Apple, Microsoft, VMware etc who pay better than Cisco and offer shares etc. Cisco even take away free soda and fruit from employees putting in 12 hours per day. But Cisco do not seem to care. Maybe they think they can run on PPT. Quite sad really.

People with knowledge and skill often ask questions…questions that put “certain people” on the spot. You’re only rewarded if you shake your head yes and do what you’re told.
